Going to have to go with Poutine...since I've only ever had one cheesteak (in Pittsburgh...) and it wasn't the greatest.

I'm an avid carnivore, but I've never had the opportunity to order a cheesesteak,Hopefully my first cheese-steak experience will be great.

Poutine FTW,by default.

*** smoke meat has not been included? What a shame.

My experience has been a large middle-aged woman yelling "deux steames, une poutine, un Coke, suivant, next!". Hate to disappoint you. Not unrelated to the lady serving cheesesteaks in your part of the world.

If you're looking for a hottie in a restaurant, maybe something a bit more upscale, like a byow French restaurant, or Le Commensal (vegetarian chain restaurant).

Anyway, my choice is the cheesesteak, but as an expat I can say this. I've already been disowned. Btw, the chef at McGill Thomson House makes an unbelievable cheesesteak sandwich.

What!?

And you say this now?!

I was there every week for 4 years and I never knew!!

Furthermore, as states previously, in Montreal you'll most likely get served by a large greasy greek guy or a middle aged husky woman... but if you go slightly out of the city into the Poutine places out of town, sometimes you get lucky. (And by lucky, I mean you'll fall on the family restaurant with the hot daughter at the cash)

*Hot daughter is over 18 right?

*Right?

Same for me. And also some greek guys with lackluster hygiene at La Belle Province. (not saying Greeks at lackluster hygiene, only those who are working at LBP...)

I've never had an authentic cheesesteak from Philly, but it can't be any different than what Buffalo Bill's has got.

Tony Luke's Cheesesteaks > La Belle Province Poutine

bBUUUUUUUUUUUT

Poutine > Cheesesteak!

Could you believe that I drove freakin 9 hours to be in Philly during the last winter holidays, and that when I arrived on Oregon Ave (where Tony Luke's is), they were closed for the holidays?

First Briere, Now they close Tony Luke's for holidays.
Philly

Having lived in pennsylvania for the past 10 years only to return home to canada last summer this is a series near and dear to my heart...Being a fatso this is an issue even closer to my heart, I love them both. You can't find poutine period in the states and you can't find a good cheesesteak up here, its a sad sad story...

that said I always hafta go where my heart lies...with the poutine...

GO HABS GO!

Guys, I just let my allegiance to the mighty Poutine down, I made myself a cheesesteak sub with swiss cheese and tomatoes on honey and oat bread, **** that was good.

Shame on me

The Elgin Street Diner in Ottawa has 6-8 kinds of poutine on the menu, including the Philly Cheesesteak Poutine.

It's like they saw this playoff matchup coming, years ago.

It always seems like Poutine joints outside of Quebec are more creative with their Poutine. Ours is still kinda stuck in the Duplessis era.
