People say having Crosby and Malkin on the same team is impressive too (for the scouting staff). I don't get that.

When you suck horribly enough to get picks right near the top two years in a row, of course you're going to have top notch, basically can't miss prospects with the best chance of winning ROY.

It was only a hope, but maybe a top5 goalie on save% could be nominated. But I'm not surprise at all.

Edit: After checking stats, he don't have a chance at all. Only 2 points against more than 70...

Exactly why I did that post; not enough games played and there goes your nomination.

If Price played 10 more games, then I'm pretty sure he would get some consideration...

If Toews didn't get his knee injury, then I honestly think he would have been the unanimous ROY with approximately 30G and 40A.

If ..., then ...

So. it's because Price did not play enough so he can't get the Calder.
OK, but that better mean that next year Price gets it for sure.
Otherwise the rules MUST change.
Even at that I think the rules must change.
The playoffs is the hardest time and if you shine in the playoffs as a rookie it's worth much much more.

I think Toews and Price will be the most impactful rookies of this year's class. Had both guys played the whole year, they would be neck and neck in voting.

Not saying its necessarily impressive for the scouting staff. Saying its impressive (in the sense that it looks promissing, looks good) for a team to have them (two ROY nomminations). If it was so slam dunk, we might see more of these.

I agree. They should have a playoff ROY award.

Technically Price did play enough games to qualify to be nominated. But what some of the posters are saying is IF he would have played 10 more games he would have had a better chance.

too bad, but there WERE a good crop of rookie players this season. those guys deserve to have a shot, price would have been nice to be in there but huet was blocking his way. not enough games. Mueler was also impressive

Backstrom had an amazing playoff debut, he really impressed me. i think washington will do better next year, and should win the division again.

All 3 are deserving of the nomination. Great young players.

Yet, it begs the question - would you trade Price straight up for anyone of them?

I don't think I would.

All 3 are very good young players. But I would rather have Price.

Price played 41Games..half the season for a rookie goalie is huge.
Toews missed 20Games..

Toews is amazing and he'll be the star of the Hawks, but i don't think he deserves to be in the top3..
Whats more deserving?..a Rookie goalie taking over the #1 spot of the #1 Eastern team, beating the spot of an AllStar Goalie, playing half of the season and getting the vote of confidence for playoffs..
Not only that, but he has the best stats of all the rookie goalies.
I just don't see how 54pts in 64GP is more deserving to be honest.

Nonetheless, Kane will most likely win it, although id give it to Backstrom.

Doesn't matter. Carey is currently trying to win a much more important trophy.

lol..Take a valium Kriss, I was only pointing out that Price qualified to be nominated.
Not that I didn't think that he deserved to be.

Toews was my choice from the beginning of the season. But with his injury and Kane slowing down a bit at the end, I'm actually leaning towards Backstrom too.

Not every rookie has a chance to play in the playoffs. A lot of the great ones over the last seasons (Crosby-Ovechkin-Kane-Stastny-Toews-Kopitar-Boyes-Mueller) didn't have the chance to play in the POs during their rookie year.

It's a "best" rookie award, not a most valuable rookie award. They picked the right nominees, IMO.

I think Enstrom deserves to be in there over Toews, but that's just me.

If I was a part of the NHL Voting Committee, I would have a real tough time giving the award to a goaltender who was at one point sent down to the minors for his poor play.

Price rebounded, but you need to consider the entire year. Price was the best rookie in the 2nd half of the NHL season, bar none. However, when you add the 1st half, he wasn't good enough to crack the Top 3.
