I'd add Kariya and Turek, but not sure who to take out.

How about a coaching staff of Quenneville, Murray, and Hartley?

EDIT: Did I say TUREK??!!! I meant Turco. Always mix up the two.

Sad hey? I guy posts a team of "leftovers" and there are still omissions... Canada's depth is sick and you can see how the seletion of their team was so hard. I would say that with a little luck in the round robin, this team would medal for sure and maybe even finish with the silver. You could argue that the goalies are better.

yeah, i dont know that this team would finish top-4, but it wouldnt look "out of place" against the better teams either i dont think.... canada's depth truly is amazing..... there isnt another country out there that could have a "2nd team" anywhere near this good

I could see Staios make the II team, and in a few years, Torres even. But what I would love to see (thought not sure where or in what fashion) would be a Canada I Vs. Canada II match. That would be interesting

How about Barrett Jackman or Vincent Damphousse? Both are guys whom I think should be good enough to make a lineup like that.

Another guy to consider might be Mark Bell in Chicago.

I don't know what's wrong with Jackman, he only played in a few games this year and he didn't do very well iirc.

He was injured, he'd likely be all better in August however.

Jackman got hit by Todd Bertuzzi in I believe mid-November. However, don't take injury as playing poorly. Jackman was the Blues 2nd best defenseman in the playoffs, and was the 2nd best defenseman early in the season before Todd wiped him out.

I think you'll see him come back next year with some serious fire. He's a lot better than people think he is, and I think too many people out there have forgot his name.

How about Horcoff? Or Nedved (he's Canadian)?

I know it's might be a stretch, but they like his two-way play and he's earned some respect from Hockey Canada the last two years. How about Horcoff instead of McCauley?

Either way, I think the whole Canada II talk is a little crazy. Everyone knows we have the deepest talent pool to draw from. I would never want to see Canada vs. Canada.

Canada will win the World Cup anyways. The Americans got phenomenal goaltending to win in 96. The gap between Broduer and anyone the Americans call on is just too wide now. On a positive note, the Oilers should have some good representation on other teams as well. Conklin and York should be locks for Team USA, and Reasoner will get some consideration as a shut-down guy. Dvorak and Hemsky will at least get consideration from the Czechs. Ulanov might be a suprise addition for the Russians, same goes for Semenov. Markkanen could be in for Finland. At least we'll get in some great hockey before the big CBA wait.

Turco over Giguere in my mind. Morrison over McCauley. Karyia over Scott Walker. Peca over Arnott. Morris over Rathje. Bouwmeester over Boucher. But that's not the point, the point of the thread is that we could easily put together another team that would still be in the top half of the tournament. US is going to continue to fall(hopefully Conks doesn't get screwed like he did in the Worlds, sitting him after he steals a game for them! Good call Laviolette!), Czechs will be solid but don't have the goaltending they had at one time(Vokun the starter???), Sweeden is in the same boat as the US getting older and no good goaltending, and finally Russia has great goaltending, but there teams are damn near impossible to motivate. 1)Canada 2)Czech's 3)Sweeden.

We could probably have 3 teams that are competative. The third would be a little thinner, but still a top notch team who could surprise.

ya, if the Russians ever decided to - they'd probably win every other major tournament - because their top 30 guys skill far excedes ours I would think. Like at the Olympics, they didn't show up at all against the Americans in the semis for a period - where they dominated the Yanks completely and utterly.
