He's shown he's full of potential and that never quit attitude. I personally thought "what the hell is Gainey doing," when we picked him up in the Rivet trade, but Gorges has shown he's fully capable (just wish he'd hit a little more).
His defensive play along the boards is quiet good. He uses leverage to pin players and he's excellent with his stick. He also has room to improve his game and become a solid 4th d-man.
What do you think should happen with Josh, seeing how Pavel Valentenko is pretty much ready for the bigs?
I'll take that 3-year contract. As a Habs fan. I dunno if Gorges (or his agent) would be quite so wise to do so. I mean, look what Bouillon got. Maybe bridging towards the UFA threat would work out better for him.
Here's hoping Habs fans don't set the bar *too* high for Gorges, though. We tend to eat our bottom pairing defensemen alive, drown them in vats of unrealistic expectations. I like Gorges a lot. But I don't want him to be the next in a long line of coin-toss victims.
I think he's a good 5-6 now. Give him a year he'll be a 3-4 player.
Perhaps, but I'd like to be 100% sure before acting on this. Giving a 5-6 guy top-4 minutes (and money) can sink your team. Look what we went through with Brisebois and Rivet. Even Quintal was being given top 4 minutes at one point. It killed us.
