#26 Josh Gorges.

Frame: 6'1" 195lbs
Shoots: Left
Stats: 62games. 9pts. 9assists.
Salary:$495,000
Current cap hit: 0.495
Status: RFA July 1st, 2008

He's shown he's full of potential and that never quit attitude. I personally thought "what the hell is Gainey doing," when we picked him up in the Rivet trade, but Gorges has shown he's fully capable (just wish he'd hit a little more).

His defensive play along the boards is quiet good. He uses leverage to pin players and he's excellent with his stick. He also has room to improve his game and become a solid 4th d-man.

What do you think should happen with Josh, seeing how Pavel Valentenko is pretty much ready for the bigs?

Sign Josh for no more than 2 Years, dump Brisebois, keep Streit at Forward and see how Pavel and Obi do in training camp.

Gorges is probably a top 5 bottom pairing guy in the league, and I'm not even being a homer. Lock him up Gainey.

He's really impressive, specially when he makes a mistake, and makes sure he's back into position. He's a really smart D.

I call, Gainey robbery on this one.

The player we drafted with SJ's #1 pick last year. Max Pacioretty

Umm...
Max isn't a defender.

Why compare a defender to a forward I dunno.

The pleasure of this situation is that he's young and could still improve in strides within 2, 3, 4 years. For how great he looks, you know he has it in him to just get even better.

Great 5-6 man. Steady as a rock. You can't fill a team with Markovs, but Gorges is as good as they come in the "stay at home bottom pairing" role.

I think he's a good 5-6 now. Give him a year he'll be a 3-4 player.

You said what a steal to get Gorges for Rivet. I replyed just wait till Pacioretty shows up, then you will know how much of a steal it is.

I'll take that 3-year contract. As a Habs fan. I dunno if Gorges (or his agent) would be quite so wise to do so. I mean, look what Bouillon got. Maybe bridging towards the UFA threat would work out better for him.

Here's hoping Habs fans don't set the bar *too* high for Gorges, though. We tend to eat our bottom pairing defensemen alive, drown them in vats of unrealistic expectations. I like Gorges a lot. But I don't want him to be the next in a long line of coin-toss victims.

Perhaps, but I'd like to be 100% sure before acting on this. Giving a 5-6 guy top-4 minutes (and money) can sink your team. Look what we went through with Brisebois and Rivet. Even Quintal was being given top 4 minutes at one point. It killed us.

Gorges is a good #7 Dman, but I don't think he's top-6 material on a regular basis. Not in the future either.
