Rumour: Andrei Kostitsyn to Ak Bars Kazan?

From Spector:

Quote:
EDMONTON JOURNAL: reports the following:

-Eastern Conference: Russian team AK Bars Kazan is rumored preparing to make a $4 million salary to Montreal Canadiens forward Andrei Kostitsyn, a restricted free agent this summer.

I say BS but definitely worth the discussion

Wow Gainey would have to match because he can be sure if he lost one the other would be soon to follow.
But I think Andrei and Sergei like it here.

I brought that up in the Brunnstrom thread so I will just repeat what I said there.

I doubt he accepts the offer but it will probably impact the contract he gets from the Canadiens.

Yeah someone mentioned it on the Brunstromm thread. I definitely think Gainey would match any offer, but that could put a kink in picking up a UFA this summer.

I don't think it's BS as we saw what happened with Perezhogin but i'm pretty certain that the Habs would match any offer in the case of AK-46 unless it's completely ridiculous (IE : a 6 years/42m offer sheet from an NHL team).

I'm not worried but i still don't like seeing stuff like that. But then again the NHL "stole" a lot of players from the RSL so i guess that they just can do the same thing.

Andrei will continue playing with us, he have the chance to be with a cup contender team, to play with his brother, to play with Kovalev. Alos, the team was always kind to him, never quitting his case, lettting him play, found solutions for his epilepsia problems.

Do not worry guys, he will be with us next year

fot the perezhogin case, he was benched at the end of last year and was clearly out of the team's plans, Andrei plays a mojor role in our offense and is a star in the making for the habs

also while he was over there.. he hardly had playing time.. and they pretty much got rid of him.. why would it change now.. why dont they make a contract offer to wings players.. or to the teams that actually really stole all their players.. poor canadiens.. Perezhogin now Kostitsyn.. anyway, i dont believe he would leave.. but still frustrating..

well, wasn't perezhogin, a fringe player of our team, offered ~2million/year when he left for russia last season ? if he got close to 2 million, that means it makes sense to see kostitsyn being offered 4 million...

Perezhogin had enjoyed some success in the RSL prior to the contract though. Kostitsyn hasn't.

Personally I think a contract offer will probably be made though, whether it is for 4 million is debatable.

It's a big amount, but I'd be surprised if the RSL DIDN'T make an offer to him

They can have a AK47 as long as we keep the AK46.

well the last thing i'd like to see is akost packing his bags for russia. that being said i think he'll stay. now if sergei also gets an offer, perhaps the deal will become more tempting.

There's alot more to it than purely money.

1. Challenge. Most players want to play in the best league in the world.
2. Stanley Cup. I'm sure this is a goal of every hockey player in the world. We are building a winner of which he is a big part.
3. Montreal versus Kazan, Russia. Which city do you think Kost likes better?

Perezhogin is a terrible comparison to Kost. Perez was a 3rd-4th liner who never enjoyed any NHL success. Kost is a top line player on a top team. He'd be stupid to trade that for an extra million in Russia, since he'll be getting at least $3million per season.

Beckham is 7 years past his prime. He has lost alot of pace. Plus he was trading up in social life / culture from London / Madrid to LA.

Kazan is no LA.

Not Happening:

- He's playing with his brother
- He's getting top minitues with a team that looks like it can be good for a very long time.
- If he keeps progressing, he's likely going to make a lot more money than that one day.

not happening. RSL is more than a step behind of NHL in organization. The only plus for player to move there is lower taxes and guaranteed playing time. Andrei doesn't have any problems with PT and as long as a new contract is not 50% of that rumored russian's - he's not going anywhere. Heck even Yashin wants to come back to the NHL
