is NHL Network anti-French?

or am I over reacting? I'm watching the On the Fly: Postgame and these two guys are pronouncing Pittsburgh Penguins head coach's name as Michael Therrien. Up until then, I have always heard his name pronounced like Michelle, even from Anglophones. Am I over reacting?

Therrien has repeatedly told non french speaking announcers to call him Michael. C'mon, he'd get the hell beat out of him walking around with a girls name if he never.

I heard Ray Shero consistently call him 'Michael' on TV

One thing funny about Michel Therrien was when they hired Andre Savard as his assistant. Savard was the Montreal GM who fired Therrien... and then they get him to work as his assistant. No wonder they seem to have problems getting along.

You are over-reacting. Michel in english sounds like "Michelle", a girl name.

And the entire world is anti-Russian for calling Alexei Kovalev "Alex". What about the anglosizing of the Kostitsyn brothers names? Is that anti- Belarusian?

Phuck, are you kidding me? Is this the first time you've heard this? Therrien has been called "Michael" in every telecast outside of Canada since he's been outside of Montreal.

I may not be the best source for this answer but I am certain Therrien has requested to be addressed as Michael. At least in Pittsburgh.

You might get a more precise answer from a resident of the city though. But I am near certain Therrien has asked for this for simplicities sake.

Well in every Canadian broadcast it is pronounced properly. However he uses the english Michael instead for the US for simplicity as ease. Canadians are used to the French version of the name while Americans would find it too much like the female name "Michelle"
