I don't think that's a poor assumption at all to make. The Stanley Cup has been very important to many European players such as Selanne, Fedorov, Larionov, Forsberg, Konstantinov, Ovechkin, Malkin, Datysuk, Zetterberg, Lidstrom, etc. These are players who play in the NHL not just for money, but to be the best in the world. You don't have to grow up in North America to want to win the Stanley Cup.

If I grow up in South America, I'd dream to win the European Champions League. That's pretty common. I suppose that's jingoistic too huh?

As far as living in Montreal v. Kazan, you might have your preference, but the majority of people would disagree.

Why would Sergei Kostitsyn bother coming to Canada to player juinors? Why wouldn't he just play in the RSL if everything is more superior (better pay, better cities, better competition, chance to win the RSL championship)?

Health care-science, I have clients in this business.(top end research and human resources)

Kostitsyns: I just pieced together a couple of details, I might be wrong, or maybe it's quite a new condition for them, successful parents?. (Independent of the brothers money input). Playing hockey in general takes some amount of money in any capitalist systems, more so in countries like Belarus(compared to the average Belorussian) It's an impression, take it for what it's worth.(Not much)

Check out this article about Brylin bringing the Cup back to Russia in 2003. It seems like a pretty big deal to him and Tevordosky and Fedorov and Valeri Bure.

If it wasn't important to Russian born players, why would be even bother?

I think this comment is extremely naive.

Further comments from Fetisov, Larionov, Konstantinov while in Detroit from http://findarticles.com/p/articles/m...21/ai_19487210

" From other parts of the Detroit locker room, the Russian Five are showing they remain comrades off the ice as well as on.

"The Russian guys want it more than anyone," defenseman Vladimir Konstantinov says abruptly. Then he adds, "More than some Canadians."

"It's a dream for me," center Igor Larionov says. "I think it is for everybody, but especially for me because I'm near the end of my career. I would like to win the Cup this year."

Viacheslav Fefisov echoes that sentiment. "The Olympic gold medal and world championships were what we looked forward to growing up in Russia," he says. "No more. For most of the players now, it's the Stanley Cup.""

I'd imagine if it's a dream for legendary Russian players like this, it'll be a dream for a Belarusian like Kostitsyn.

Andrei have said repeatedly that she is moving with their child this summer in Montreal. *Shes in Belarus, not Russia*

He rode the pines in Russia for 2 years and now that he's on the verge of becoming a big star in Canada with his brother by his side he's going to go back to Russia?

Just tell him if he continues to progress towards his potential he'll be laughing at 4 million per year.

Exactly. CSKA Moscow played 17 year old Zherdev and 17 year old Denis Parshin, but Kostitsyn got minimum playing time there.

Montreal's psy institute happens to be THE foremost world expert in epilepsy and other similar conditions, the first to develop medications to control and yes cure epilepsy.

In our familly my brother was a pioneer patient 40 years + ago and one of the first cured of the condition after 20 years. It is not surprising that it is here that Andrei's condition and medication was tweaked to advantage, it does not mean that he was receiving sub-standard attention back home.....there are only so many world class experts around and Montreal happens to be where the best practice in this field. (Lets hope we can maintain this world class standard)

And despite being with CSKA with all their money and access to the top health care in Russia Andrei's condition was still misdiagnosed. It was only after being drafted and coming to Montreal that the problem was solved. That should end the medical debate argument.

You guys panic too much, Andrei will not leave for many reasons:

- He battled for 3 seasons in the AHL and now he finally has a top 6 roster spot in the NHL.

- His little brother is here and when his brother came he played much better. He also said that he would move his wife and child here during the summer.

- 4M$?! Andrei my man...if you continue progressing the way you are you will be looking down at those 4 million dollar makers.

- NHL is much more competitive than the RSL and he already is getting top 6 minutes in the NHL.

Funny how other team fans come on this thread to say reasons to why he should leave...they look very scared of what he can do.

It's been mentioned a few times in the previous posts that she is in Belarus and that she is playing on coming over this summer with his kid.

If anyone else asks this it will be bordering on Chipchura's injury or Gorges was captain territory.

Is Andrei's wife in Russia?
