Cristobal Huet

Hello!
I just have som questions about Cristobal Huet.
First off, why did he leave the Canadiens?
How should you describe him as a goalie and as person?
And at last, do you know if his going to play the WC in Quebec?

Thank you.

- He got traded...
- Is a good no1 goalie, a little inconsistent but absolutely top 10-15 in the league. Also is a very nice guy and everyone in the locker room liked him.
- Yes, he will be representing France.

He left because Bob Gainey never had the intention to re-sign him this summer, to give Price the playoff experience now. He is a great person, very down to earth and he is willing to do anything to help the team. And yes he is representing France at the WC this spring.

He wasn't getting along with us because he'd let in some weak goals, so we at HF traded him to Washington for a 2nd rounder.

He's probably just about the best person in the world. He makes Gandhi look like Hitler, and I'm not just saying that.

As far as goaltending is concerned, he's like Martin Gerber minus the consistency.

Huet would've left the habs anyway

he wants to play 50-60 games per season...and gainey wanted Price to be #1

I see a lot of people here are defending the play of Carey Price so far in these playoffs. I can't help but think if you changed nothing but the name on the back of the goaltenders jersey from "Price" to "Huet" people here would be posting a completely different view of the goalkeepers performance.

Well Price is like 10 years younger playing in his first ever NHL season...I'd say he certainly deserves a bit more leniency.

Huet is out of the playoffs.... He didn't stop philly... he got lit up like a christmas tree in the early part of that series... He is not clutch... Price shut out the bruins in game 7. Won game 4 with a 1-0 shutout... End of story.

I liked Huet as a player and a person, but I seriously question a lot of people who seem to think he would've brought us farther than Price. They had about the same playoff experience (ie. very little), and Huet was inconsistent down the stretch. I seriously loved this guy as a player, and the way he left was the definition of class, but I've seen too many people (not necessarily here) who made him out to be one of the top goaltenders in the league.

Man, why is there always a Huet thread here... Can't people search for the thread instead of creating one again...

Sorry just venting now...

I would suggest the OP to ask these questions on the caps board.

Answers here will be 80% of "Huet sucks, every goal against him is so weak, no matter how bad the team is playing in front of him" and 20% of "He's a class act but i won't say he was good in Montreal or i'll get rejected by the almighty habsfans organization".

Should've clarified what I meant: I meant on par with Brodeur and Luongo. I know he's good, but following this board around the trade deadline, and considering the amount of Huet hate before the trade, it was very funny to see him become an excellent goaltender in a matter of seconds.

He has less consistency than Gerber? Wow, you know you're in trouble when...

Yes, that was my point. I was laughing at the idea that Huet is less consistent than Gerber.

We traded him for a 2nd round pick that is next to worthless. Now he will be Washingtons #1 goalie next year and they will become a very strong team within our conference. Thanks Gainey!

He was a UFA.... He could've gone to them anyway.... Where he signs has NO impact on the value we got for him at the deadline... only what he did this year matters. UFA!!! We weren't signing him.... get that through your heads people.
