Montreal Canadiens = MIA

It appears that CH is so complacent and pleased with themselves that they need to create some kind of crisis to motivate themselves to play up to their potential.

On paper, CH is a better team but this is a dangerous formula, esp. looking at the character on the Philadelphia team.

Look down their roster. They're full of players who know how to win. Mike Richards, Scottie Upshall, Jeff Carter, Captain Smith, etc...these are guys who've history of winning...esp. in International competition against European player, which so many of CH players are!

CH needs to show up for the whole 60 minutes each game if they have any hope of moving on.

Smart'en up CH and realize that you are wearing the revered CH logo on your chests!

Give me a break. We've outplayed this team all series. They've had incredible goaltending and a ******** of luck. We played a good game tonight, definitely not our best, but good enough to deserve to win this ****fest.

You cannot fault the team. You can fault the PP. You can fault Carbo's decision to constantly go back to the same people on the PP. But you cannot fault the team tonight. IMO, Price is the one who should have bailed us out for their 3rd goal, which ended up being the GWG. And yes, I do expect him to make that save and bail us out. If that's the case, chances are we would've tied the game up.

The team was going through the motions in the first 35 minutes of tonight's game. Esp. the Kosties and Pleks. There was no desperation until Hatcher's penalty. If the team played like they did in the third period for the entire 60 minutes, I guarantee you that they win more games then they lose!

Even with the way we were playing, we still demolished the Flyers. That's how pathetic this game was. We deserved this one.

The Habs attempted 64 shots. The Flyers attempted 32. COME ON!

It's the quality of the shots that matter. For the first 45 minutes of tonight's game, none of the CH shots were getting to Biron because they were being fluttered from the perimeter and being blocked. CH is playing perimeter hockey a la Sergein Sampsonov...and you cannot win playing this way in the playoffs!

You have to create your own chances in the playoffs and you cannot do that without taking the punishment. No body is willing to drive to the net and stand in front of the net to cause havoc for Biron right now.

Everyone is just trying to be cute and playing fancy, opportunistic hockey. This won't work, no matter how talented you are...and believe it or not, contrary to what most of the CH players themselves think, CH is NOT THAT TALENTED!

Pittsburg Penguins, now THAT is a talented bunch...but even they even out their talent with hardnosed, pay the price, ornery hockey! No one on CH is doing that right now. Everybody, including the top end guys need to be doing exactly that.

Sacrifice to create chances for each other.

It's a battle of wills, not of skills!

I do recall 3 posts and a clear breakaway in the first 20 minutes...

We have guys that just plain need to play better. Hello, Markov, Komisarek, Higgins, Plekanac.

People who say we've outplayed them all series long are crazy.
We've outplayed Philly in every third period but that's it.

Don't tell me we're outshooting them to make a point because if you look at 50% of the shots Biron is facing, it's as if he was facing practice shots.
No one goes to the net to create traffic and make life hard for him and he just has to follow the play and get all those pucks in the chest.

Out of those 64, only 34 made it to the net.
And out of those 34, there's about 15 that were easy shots with no traffic.
Example? Latendresse finishes the game with 5 shots. One is a deflection after everyone realized they needed to play but the other 4 shots are wristers from the blue line with no one even close to Biron.

I don't care about numbers, the scoring chances are what counts and only when you bury them...

You need to play more than 10 minutes at the beginning of the period and 10 minutes at the end of the game to win in the playoffs.

Whether you hit the post or miss it by an inch, it's still not in.
Look at the shots man...
Kovalev, one shot.
Plekanec, one shot.
Kostitsyn Sr, one shot.
Kostitsyn Jr, no shots.

When guys like Gorges and Bouillon have more shots than all of those guys, you know you ain't going to win.

I want results, not excuses. If they play the whole game like they played the last 10 minutes, this game is over in no time... Hell, this series is over in no time.

Lets talk about scoring chances now, not shots scoring chances.

Last game, Plekanec has TWO major scoring chances, Higgins miss an empty net, Kostitsyn missing a backhander when he cuts to the net, these are some i remember.

Today, Higgins again miss an wide open net, Koivu breakaway, Kovy one timers, Kovy tip that touch the post etc...

Not only we outshots them, but we outchances them big time, its not even close.

And the final result is? We lose because we can't finish.
You can out chance them as much as you want but if you don't finish, it doesn't mean ****.

Well said.

Montreal is superior on defense and superior in the neutral zone, but when they get their opportunities, they just shoot from the peremeter. Worse, they shoot low or glove-high, and not top-shelf. Biron hasn't allowed goals on those shots -- unless he was screened -- in 10 playoff games. Why does Montreal think he will allow those goals now?

Contrast that to Philly, which creates traffic in front of Price and crashes the net. That directly leads to screens, deflected shots, goals off defenders, etc. The Flyers don't need 40 shots to score 4-5 goals when they are permitted to do that.

Bingo. And we don't have a second man on the puck. We don't have players that can win one-on-one battles, we need the second guy.

One guy did it last night, Koivu, and guess what, he scored on one of those juicy Biron rebounds.

Yes, we won all year but the playoffs require you to play a different game. You need to pay the price because you'll need scrappy goals which is something we're not getting.
