They don't play the Russian anthem for the Russian players.. Jesus.. It just doesn't make sense to play them anymore.

The Anthems are played to honor the country the TEAM is from, it's not for the players. If a Russian team played on American or Canadian soil, then that's when you would hear the Russian anthem.

They can boo the Canadian anthem if they want. I won't get excited over people booing a song.

Me neither...

Most overrated fan base i've ever heard of. Prior to the game everyone was saying how they are noisy and all of that...they aren't even 1% what the Montreal fanbase is

I know we have a statue inspired by one of Kerouac's books (titled Les clochards célestes), and don't we have a Sphinx too? I know it's not exactly the same thing, but I love that they kept Rocky's sculpture, it's not like it's the city who asked for it to be made, it was a gift from Stallone or the production.

I totally agree. So, when Calgary plays Toronto... do they play the Canadian anthem twice?

My point is that we dont need that in the NHL. Just play the darn game and let the anthem music out of it.

You think another group of people acting poorly somehow makes it okay? Of course we are "still" classless.

When the booing business started, I remember the Montreal crowd actually booed both anthems (On different degrees, USA lots more than Canada).

Then the Americans started booing the Canadian anthem.

Then, seeing that, the Montreal crowd started cheering the CAN anthem.

SO, at the end, Americans booing the Canadian anthem has improved Quebec/ROC relations.

Ouch don't generalize the rest of us over the fact that Philly doesn't have many real sports heroes deserving of statues. We make fun of them for that Rocky statue all the time, but what can you do about it? You should go on Youtube and do a search for Bill Burr's rant on Philadelphia sometime, it includes Rocky statue bashing and so much more.

Major waste of time? Yeah, I know, it takes all of 2-3 minutes - HUGE waste of time, I mean really, I know of a hundred things I could have done if I had that 3 minutes back. Curses NHL, for wasting my life!

I really dont care. Its a minority that booed, so I'm not going to paint all the flyer fans with one stroke.

I dont get offended that easily either. I just hate people that paint our fanbase with one stroke because of a minority booing.

I'd never boo an anthem myself or anything but geez it's a sporting event with loads of alcohol flowing and it's been happening since the dawn of time...yet people still get upset about it.

Yes we do. Servicemen get highly offended when a song that has meaning to them is disregarded as a joke. Its embarrassing for every Canadian and American that boos the anthem for so twisted pleasure. There is no reason that Americans and Canadians should ever boo each others national anthem for the purpose of showing disdain for a hockey team. Disgraceful on both sides of the border.

Sorry for posting, just had to express this opinion.

no need to feel sorry for posting, lol

I just think its not worth getting offended over idiots anyways. They just want attention and they are getting exactly what they want.

Anthem was because half the team before were from canada and the other half from usa.The player were 70% canadian and 30% american.

But today it's like 5 canadian team for 25 american team.Yet some pp ldon't even speak english (malkin) and some team don't even have 1 canadian or american.Which mean , anthem , country etc . .Have nothing to do with this sport anymore.Hockey is now a sport widely played worldwide.
Yet it would not be a surprise to see japanese hockey player in the nhl someday
