Stan Fischler says (TV)

Stan Fischler in a 2nd hand quote says NHL and ESPN will have a deal. He quotes Andy Bernstein of Street and Smith. Says a 2 year deal for between $660 and $670 milllion. Seems to me like it would be over 10 million per team per year. Don't know about this. It is on www.foxsports.com in the hockey section under Fischler section. Anyone want to comment.

That is malarkey. Here is a quote from USA today....

ABC and ESPN deals: Bodenheimer said he is hopeful of making an announcement on a new NHL TV deal "shortly." In the expected contract, cut to $60 million-$70 million a year from the current $120 million, ABC would be out.

ESPN2 would carry regular-season games and ESPN would share postseason telecasts with ESPN2. The NHL's Bernadette Mansur declined to comment on whether the league had another broadcast network lined up.

Bodenheimer also is confident ABC and ESPN will maintain a strong position in college football but said, "It's too early to tell" whether ABC would share the Bowl Championship Series contract with another network

It's in "the Maven" Stan Fischler's Bluelines column.

Fischler writers,
Quote:
Street & Smith's Andy Bernstein is reporting a new two-year NHL U.S. television deal in the $660-670 million range. ESPN 2 would carry regular season games while ESPN and ESPN2 would share playoffs. ABC would be out of the picture. According to the report, the deal could be cut by the end of the week.
Thanks for the heads-up fan mao rong.

It should also be noted that NBC has become the broadcast network for the NHL for the next two seasons, article here.

Here is an excerpt from the article,
Quote:
The deal, announced Wednesday, will call for NBC to broadcast seven regular-season games beginning in January and six playoff games in regular Saturday afternoon time slots. The network also will televise Games 3-7 of the Stanley Cup finals in prime time. NBC last regularly broadcast NHL games 29 years ago. The network televised the league's All-Star game from 1991-94.

That is a typo kids, if there is a network going to pay $330 million to $340 million a season for NHL rights, they are nuts.(I think they just added a 6 in front of the $60-70 million that they will actually get.)
