Although the Devils beat the Rangers, as far as motivating, its a Phyrric victory. SO wins don't exist in the POs.

Anyone thinking the 2005-2006 Playoffs will be relived just baffles me. That has nothing to do with anything and is completely irrelevant.

Lundqvist was a rookie then, Jagr was hurt immediately, the Devils just had a better team.

We are certainly capable of taking this series and I think we will.

Did anyone ever think the Rangers were going to sweep 4 straight series and go undefeated in the playoffs?

Of course not. The series need to be played. The team we see in the finals will be battle tested and will have built the great team character that comes from rising above a loss and coming back strong.

The loss will encourage the Rangers to regroup, reassess and take inventory of their strengths and weaknesses as individuals and as a team. Opportunity to become more aware, better adjusted and one step closer through the process.

Go Blueshirts!!!

Rangers win Round 1 vs the always difficult NJ Devils.

Many positives:

1. Lundqvist - out plays Brodeur....huge saves....penalty shot save in a 3-4 game , 3rd period series on the line... oh yea

2. Jagr looking dangerous, clicking with Straka and Dubi

3. The kids - Dubi, Cally, Staal, Girardi, Dawes getting it done

4. Scott Gomez and Chris Drury coming up big in the playoffs

Hmm. Looking at Pitt, montreal, Caps, Philly, and Boston, surprisingly that statement doesnt sound outlandish. You know whats scary? Our D is only going to get better.

Its safe to say the Rangers have made it to Round 2 of the playoffs.

They have a great balance of skilled players, role players, young players, old players.

And everyone is healthy....

Lets go Rangers

Yeah I'm going to be positive at this point in time.

Sometimes you have to take a step back to take a step forward. And maybe the Rangers are doing that. I have no problem taking a step back to go forward while:

1) Establishing the future leadership of this team in Gomez and Drury.
2) Integrating 5 rookies to the lineup and not just in the lineup but playing meaningful minutes and important roles.
3) Giving the youth in Hartford and juniors another year to get closer the NHL.
4) Beating the Devils in the playoffs.

Unfortunately, they ran into a team that is just more talented, deeper and hot as hell right now. But the future is only brighter for this team.

I was thinking the same, Singn', but...

came out with a big question mark. The outcome in this series has not yet been decided, and I do get this feeling that we will all feel good Friday morning as Jagr delivers on his promise, but can't say if it's just prolonging the inevitable. But, let's assume they don't go further and see what we got:

Yeah, it's nice that kids were integrated and contributed this season. The question is, however, can these kids stand on their own and will Gomez and Drury be able to replace, say, Jagr and Shanny, if they don't come back. We can all talk about declines in production, but without those guys, the rookie forwards, I believe, are a bit less effective as roles change.

Beating the Devils was nice, but this wasn't the Devils of a couple seasons ago that beat the Rangers - defensively and in goal, they just didn't seem to have it at the end of the season and into the playoffs.

Getting the HFD youth one year closer is nice. There still are questions about what exactly is there and who will make the step up and in what role.

I like Gomez and Drury as leaders, but as mentioned above, I think they may need a bit of help that may not be here next season.

I'm not trying to be negative, but there still seems to be a lot of question marks and with Shanny on the verge of 40 and looking it, and Jagr's status unknown, and the defense, while solid with 3 yoots still has three other spots to be filled (sorry, I'm just not a fan of Backman, but I should say two spots to be accurate), and you have a team with a fair amount of question marks going into next season.

Of course there are questions marks. I'm not implying their aren't.

BTW, what did Jagr promise? I must have missed that.

I'd be very positive if we could get Jerome Iginla.

Don't know if that is even possible. Just dreaming.

Trying to be objective, the team does have a nice core:
Three young defensemen-Toots, Girardi, Staal. Some nice ones in the minors, Baranka, Sauer and Sanguinetti
Three fine centers-Dubi, Gomez, Drury Another good one in Hartford
A franchise goalie who needs more rest during the year
Some decent forwards-Cally, Dawes, Prucha
The team is severely lacking quality big wingers and one or two big banging defensemen. The team, with the right moves, can be very competitive in the East. Unfortunately, with Pittsburgh in the same division, it will be quite difficult for us in the next few years. Lundqvist will be required to steal a series from Pittsburgh for us to advance to a finals. Thoughts and comments
BTW- Hollweg and Orr,imo, are nothing more than career minor leaguers.

I'd love to make this series go at leats 6 games though 7 would be better.
