With the amount of net Halak gives up top, I expect him to be absolutely murked tonight. I don't like the decision but it's giving Halak a taste of playoff hockey and should be a great hunger and drive builder. It might also light a fire in Carey's butt and make him play better once he comes back. I personally think Price can bounce back without the rest but I'll wait for the game to end before I start the bashing.

I was looking for that joke myself. Surprising decision, I would've bet that Price would play. All I can think of is that Carbo is smarter than me and has access to info that I don't so....

that's exactly the same situation as last year in the final game of the season. he went with huet who just came back from injury instead of halak, and we lost. anyways one way or the other he will get blamed if we lose the series.

So I was looking at flyers board to see their reaction and stop at the 1st post I read. The guy was saying how they suck against backup goalies but that Price is a backup goalie and they beat him, so a 3rd goalie like halak would be easy..

Yeah, it's usually pretty obvious if it comes to me that easily.

I'm with you - I'm shocked both because it's not what I would have done nor what I expected. Gutsy call by Carbonneau.

The boys on RDS seem to think Cary has a minor hand injury, which may have influenced Carbonneau's decision. It's all speculative on their part though - they showed images of Cary on the ice and in the dressing room to frame their hypothesis, but we're likely to only find out after the series.

Anyway, I'm behind the team as always - Halak can get it done. Sometimes a move like this can help tighten the defense as well.

I've never seen a fanbase so overconfident after taking a 2-1 lead in a series. It's really something.

My guess Price is injured. Would explain his constant opening and closing of the glove during stoppages and like I stated in another thread I think he hurt while punching people in front of the net like this for example in game 3. He seemed to do it every game.

You know when a goalie raises his arms to subtly tell the crowd, 'wasn't my fault, I didn't see it' ? I thought I saw a bit more of that than I like, over the last week. I don't know that it's related, but it's not a habit you want to see.

It was either at the end of the Bruins series or at the beginning of this one but after a whistle he got hacked pretty badly on the glove hand... so much so that he threw his glove off and nursed his hand which isn't something seen very often (especially in the playoffs).

I think it's the other way around.

But that was last season. He didn't have enough games to tell either way this year but he did win on the road.

I think it's a good idea. Shouldn't be taken as a knock against Price. Halak is another very good, very young goalie, a part of the team now and for a long time into the future. It is completely reasonable for him to get a shot, given Price's recent games....whatever the reason for the outcomes. No sacred cows allowed..!!

Price will(most likely) be back for game 5 ...

Hopefully this will signal a wake-up call for the offense. Halak will let in a softie or two but the offense will bail him out. Prediction 6-4 Montreal. Kovalev with 2 goals.

Carey Price is 20 years old and this is his first full season playing against grownups. He's played virtually every game since the trading deadline under an unrelenting glare to ever increasing expectations as the team continued to confound pretty much every preseason prediction.

There's a good chance he's nursing an injury - most players are at this time of the year - but even if he's 100% physically, I'm sure the past few months have taken a toll on him psychologically.

He's stood in there after the few bad performances he's had, faced the media, answered their questions, and only once (to my knowledge) took refuge in the trainer's room.

There seems to be no good reason to put the kid in there when he's not up to the job. He's shown signs of possibly, maybe, potentially, becoming a superstar and it'd be awful short-sighted to send him in unprepared with his confidence shaken.

A couple days away from the glare and stress and he might be as good as new. Halak has shown himself to be competent and ought to be able to fill in adequately for one game. The series doesn't hang on his performance tonight, especially if the Habs don't generate offence and convert their chances as a better rate than they have recently.

Sorry to be so wordy but you asked.

Game time.

he can do the job, He have a lot of talent and moves well in the crease, he could have became our No 1 if Price was not drafted
