OT: Johan Franzen almost a Hab?

Heard Bobby Mac on the team 990 yesterday and he dropped an interesting note about the "mule". He said that he knew for a fact that the Habs were ready to draft to draft Franzen 100th overall in 2004 but the Red Wings got him first at 97.

Now I went to hockeydb to see who else was picked around there and I saw that Alex Edler was picked at spot 91. Then I remembered a story I read about how Edler came to be discovered (http://www.nationalpost.com/sports/story.html?id=264254)
and interestingly enough, the guy the Red Wings really wanted was Edler. I dunno if Franzen would be as good if he were a Hab, but with the team getting snake bitten left and right, a guy can dream can't he?

That's crazy, he would've been perfect here. We picked JT Wyman at 100, h opefully he continues to progress like he has.

Franzen just scored his second hat trick of the playoffs...he has 11 so far. Something like 25 in 28 games going back to the regular season. That's just ridiculous

those Detroit scouts are something else (and I'm not just talking about him).

I'd rather have Edler than Franzen.. though I guess we are already stocked up enough at defense.

Never met a Klaus I was that comfortable with. Alex's tend to be alright though.

I know one guy named Klaus - pretty good guy until he started making some real coin and became a pompous full of himself @ss

pissed me off because I worked hard to become a pompous full of himself @ss and he just bought his way into the club

When you consider the guys that the Habs "should have drafted" or "were going to draft" and never did draft it's no wonder teams like the Red Wings and Ducks are playing for Stanley Cups and the Habs are not close to being true contenders.

To Gainey's credit, in the (now) 5 years he has been in Montreal, he has improved
the Habs organization, but has not yet addressed one of their most pressing needs over the last 15+ years or so ......... too many small forwards! If the Habs do become serious Cup contenders I expect it will take at least another 5 years (hope I am wrong)!

As a Hab Franzen would be tossing airplanes from the press box watching Carbo play Dandenault, Begin, Latendresse before him.

We would have an incredible team if we would've have all the "almost", "could be" and "should have been".....Obviously not cap friendly but still....
