Why in the world would Zhamnov sign with Pittsburgh? He likes it here, he's played very well so the club would want him back, and there would most likely be better offers than Pittsburgh.

It certainly seems that way.

if letting Zhamnov go means having the money to re-sign Primeau i dont care. But if JR decides to retire after this season we will probably keep Zhamnov.

I cannot see the Pens offering up the cash - he will likely go for 6 million per year and that would not fly in Pitts, heck, it may not fly anywhere.

He's not getting $6 million anywhere.

Half the reason the rumors are flying so rampant in Pittsburgh is because of his price, he's not going to command more than 3 million. Anyone that would offer him 6 million should be shot in the groin and forced to live out a life of solitude in Cleveland.

If he doesn't re-up with Philadelphia I can see it happening. But I'm not hoping that it happens. Zhamnov is great and all but the young Penguins need leadership, one thing Alex severely lacks.

Too bad he didn't disappear during the Devils series...I really don't see going from a Cup contender to a team like Pittsburgh...

The reason I put up the 6 mill number is that I read a while back (sorry no source) that his agent was looking for number one center money and Chi was not willing to up his salary.
He makes 4.5 now and you think he is looking to take a pay cut to go to a team that has not made the playoffs - he had that in Chi. He will "ask" for 5-6 per is my guess. Chi tried to work on his contract this year without success thus he was moved.
If it is really only 3 mill that he gets, he will be in Philly until he retires.
Is there a team that will give him the asking price or a raise? Depends on the CBA.

You want him to be your #1 center?
I doubt he is ready at this point and I am not willing to gamble a season on that point.

Zeus will be #1 center, Jeff #2
But I think it will all come down to is will there be a season next year, if there is, he'll be resigned, if there isn't, he won't

Now thats a scary thought. Handzus as your #1 center

He is excellent 2-way but isn't near good enough to be a number 1. He is slow as all hell too. Still though Zeus rocks

Not even close, and I love Handzus.

It was Roenick prior to his injury, and Zhamnov being brought in.

Assuming Roenick plays next season, and Primeau is resigned.

Roenick
Primeau
Handzus
(Mystery player)

That mystery player could be Carter, it could be Sharpie, or whoever else. I really like Zhamnov, but even without Carter he may not be in the teams plans.

Of course if we lose Primeau and/or Roenick, then who knows?

Zues is not a number one center.
He is a great three and a slow 2 but I like his play overall.
I don't think JR will survive a full season at center at the rate he gets hit, thus a move to wing and a playmaker would help - that is why I would like to see Zhamnov stay. I would not go over his current salary of 4.5 but the CBA will likely determine if he can be brought back.
Aside: I would like to see Sharp with more ice time in the future be it at wing or center and I think a line of Prims/Kapi/Sharp would be a dynamite third line.
