I cannot see the Pens offering up the cash - he will likely go for 6 million per year and that would not fly in Pitts, heck, it may not fly anywhere.
Half the reason the rumors are flying so rampant in Pittsburgh is because of his price, he's not going to command more than 3 million. Anyone that would offer him 6 million should be shot in the groin and forced to live out a life of solitude in Cleveland.
If he doesn't re-up with Philadelphia I can see it happening. But I'm not hoping that it happens. Zhamnov is great and all but the young Penguins need leadership, one thing Alex severely lacks.
The reason I put up the 6 mill number is that I read a while back (sorry no source) that his agent was looking for number one center money and Chi was not willing to up his salary.
He makes 4.5 now and you think he is looking to take a pay cut to go to a team that has not made the playoffs - he had that in Chi. He will "ask" for 5-6 per is my guess. Chi tried to work on his contract this year without success thus he was moved.
If it is really only 3 mill that he gets, he will be in Philly until he retires.
Is there a team that will give him the asking price or a raise? Depends on the CBA.
Zues is not a number one center.
He is a great three and a slow 2 but I like his play overall.
I don't think JR will survive a full season at center at the rate he gets hit, thus a move to wing and a playmaker would help - that is why I would like to see Zhamnov stay. I would not go over his current salary of 4.5 but the CBA will likely determine if he can be brought back.
Aside: I would like to see Sharp with more ice time in the future be it at wing or center and I think a line of Prims/Kapi/Sharp would be a dynamite third line.
