I don't want to speak as a rival, but I think the Montreal Canadiens deserve a lot of credit. #1 seed in the East seemed to be an unreasonable expectation, and they too came from a humble year last year and their centennial year seems poised to be a great year for Montreal and may be able to take that step into a contender.
to the Canadiens for a great season.
Thanks! And good luck to you guys, great effort and best of luck!
The Habs played great. I really didnt think they had it in them to even rank as high as they did. I thought they would be in the middle of the pack. But you guys put up a fight for sure. You definitely have a very young and talented team with both Kostitsyn's, Latendresse, and Price (will be an amazing goalie in the years to come). I see your team going far just about every year from now on granted injuries dont take that big a toll on them. Thanks for a great series guys.
As people have said before Montreal is a young team and sometimes that's forgotten by some. This will be a painful lesson and they will be much, much better for it. I expect them to be even better next year and that's a pretty scary thought.
For 29 teams the season ends at least a tad sourly, this one is pretty bitter for this Habs fan despite such a successful season. It was a great regular season, hopefully this young team learns a lot from these 12 playoff games about what it means to play in the playoffs.
Man was I impressed by their fans-I expect every fanbase to cheer a little after their team has been eliminated, but the second Knuble iced it with the EN goal the Habs fans were congratulating their team-their wasn't that usual bitter silence, it was just gratitude and respect. Thanks for a good series and good luck next year.
If someone from the future were to tell me that the Habs would lose in these playoffs, I would have wanted them to accomplish certain things in light of their little playoff experience:
1. Win a playoff series - Beat Boston in 7 - Done
2. Face Adversity - Took Boston (and probably Philly which cost them) too lightly - Done
3. Experience a Game 7 - See no. 1 - Done
4. Experience the most hostile arenas - Boston/Philly Home crowds - Done
5. Become aware of the physicality of Playoff Hockey - Boston/Philly, two of the more physical teams in the league - Done
Hopefully these lessons taken in this year will carry over to their next playoff run.
If there is anything that I really bugged me before coming into these playoffs is the expectation put upon this team after capturing the top seed of the Eastern Conference during regular season.
I always felt like Home ice advantage was only "truly" an advantage for seasoned playoff teams. Which was obviously not the case for this team.
It also feeds the trolls with ammunition to try to tarnish the success that was the Montreal Canadiens 2007-2008 season.
Thank you to all level headed posters who can take off the homer goggles and acknowledge the accomplishments and surpassing of all pre-season (including my own) expectations by the Montreal Canadiens.
