Well, Kovalev would be the Slowest skater on this Team Russia, because the other guys are speed demons.

Team Russia might think that he doesn't fit with the team, I don't know...

He is also one of the slowest skater on the Habs too...

Maybe weird confusing way of saying he had a difficult and physical playoffs and maybe tired?

I don't know, maybe its a Russian changing of the guard. I haven't really looked at their roster but maybe they are looking at younger players who will be playing internationally for a much longer time.

In other words, political.

That's why I was gonna say...

A few months ago, a skating teacher analysed the Habs, and two players were ahead of everyone else as for skating abilities : Kovy and AKost. Now, it doesn't mean that he's the fastest, but he has the ability to skate really easily. Maybe that's why you think he's slow...his technique seems slow, but in fact, he's quite fast, but just not a speed demon...

Fedorov is one of the best skaters to ever play the game, Kovalevs skating doesn't even compare to Fedorovs.

Well, I meant in terms of Acceleration. The guy got nice speed and big elegant strides, but he doesn't have this breakaway acceleration that the Russian GM might want in a player... It's just an hypothetical ideas to try to justify Kovalev not being considered for Team Russia.

Geez, relax...

You might be thinking about his red wing days.
He's not any faster than Kovalev buddy.

I read a story before that the Bros and Grabs bought the Belarus team a new set of gloves and had them left in the dressing room for the team to discover. Just a little reminder from them that although they were miles away in the NHL playoffs at the time, they were thinking of their teammates and their country. Nice gesture from them. I hope they have some success this summer.

ehh ?!?! Sergei Fedorov was in the top 3 fastest skaters in the NHL in his prime days. Kovalev wasn't even close. Fedorv won 3 fastest competions contest and was always at least the finalist in theses skills competition. You should be the one that we laughed about...

They have no justification to not taking Kovalev, aiming his speed is quite ridiculous.
Kovy was the 5th highest scoring Russian in the NHL this season.
Datsyuk and Malkin are part of the ones ahead of him but they're still in Playoffs. Only Ovechkin(112) and Kovalchuk(87) on the russian team had more pts than him at 84.

Not every player on that team is as explosive as Ovechkin or Kovalchuk. Explosive skating does not equal Speed.
To hear some people here, one would think Kovalev is the slowest player in the league, slower than Hatcher.

Kovalev is one of the best skaters in the league, he won't win a speeding contest, but you don't need to be the quickest player when you can deke anybody in the game.

Yea..wow..thats great buddy..hmmm in what year do we live?..is it not 2008?...
Fedorov is no longer the speedster he once was. He's not any faster than Kovalev as of TODAY.
The guy is turning 39, his speed is not comparable to what it was when he was 25.
