Trade up for Kyle Beach : Yay or Nay ?

# Name: Kyle Beach
# Position: C
# Shoots: Right
# Height: 6-3
# Weight: 182 lbs
# Birthdate: 1990-01-13
# Eligible for Draft: 2008

Quote:
Talent Analysis

Beach is a big physical force on the ice. He has a nose for the net, is a force on the power play, and will not shy away from dropping the gloves.
Potential issue : May be an headcase/attitude issues

Beach is pretty much the only guy im truly interested in in the upcoming draft and he's EXACTLY what we're lacking in our system. He's ranked at #10 by the ISS so we would have to make a pretty big jump to get him but i think that it could be worth it.

What do you guys think ?

Definitely Yay, but it would depend on what it would take to get the pick.

Edit: I owe you a beer Chomsky.

No it would make way too much sense... Gainey and his grade 9 education won't pick up on it.

Even more reasons to trade up for him. His favorite team is the Habs and his favorite player is also my favorite player

And , while it would clearly cost something , it's not like we would be trading for a top 3 pick so i don't think that the cost would be out of this world. We have enough depth to pull a move imho.

Anytime.

But now back to the OP's topic.

From what I've seen of Beach he is exactly what we are looking for. A big right handed center who isn't afraid to rough it up. He would definitely fill a void that we don't have in our system.

Having him and Chips on our team in the future would be quite impressive.

Since you are obviously well educated. Can you explain to simple little me why you would say something like this?

Who has the 10th pick? Vancouver? Chicago?

Towards Vancouver we could possibly dangle some offense.

Grabovski, Carle?

Towards Chicago, we could probably dangle Halak. Chicago is deep at forward, so maybe moving them Halak + our pick (+ maybe rights to Perezhogin?).. would be something we could do.

I don't care with all the attitude stuffs around him!

We need a big physical, talented, center man! I mean, Getzlaf got some attitude problems in junior...whi would pass on him right now?

Go for it! We have enough depth to make this kind of trade. I mean, we will draft around the 20th...we would certainly get a good player at this point, but I want THIS guy that will center or 1st or 2nd line in the future ala Getzlaf!

Considering our lack of top 6 right-handed forwards, having this guy, especially on the PP, would be a blessing.

Of course, about Beach, you either love him or absolutely hate him.

Only knock if you are looking for a centre, Beach won't be the answer. He'll most likely be converted to a winger in the NHL. His hockey sense, just like Jeff Carter, will limit his potential as a centre.

AKostitsyn-Plekanec-Kovalev
Latendresse-Koivu-Beach
Higgins-Chipchura-Skostitsyn

Looks good.

We're probably going to get the 25th pick, i think beach will fall in the draft so we wont have to make that big of a move. had a awful 2nd half, below 1ppg, 2 concussion, broke orbital bone, left off team canada at u-18...still think he's the perfect fit lol

Rofl. Don't count on him falling that low. Remember, it just takes ONE team willing to take a shot at him and he's gone. I think we need a top 15 pick to be able to grab him.

The team canada story is related to his attitude more than his talent. He used a stick with Team Ontario written on it at one of the training camps, if I'm not confusing the story.

Just wait to draft day my friend! Stranger thing have happen before...rob schremp was a top5 talent in 2004 and slipped to 25th to edm...cherepanov top3 talent slipped to 17th and same thing with esposito...they all had attitude problem (+cherepanov with the lack of transfer deal)...i dont think beach will fall to 25th but i can see him being available at 18-20th

Ya I know. Just stating my opinion on the subject. I think the Ducks will take a shot at him if Myers is gone.

I think he'd be great between the Kost broz. That's exactly the type of center they'd need. Big center that likes to play physical and wouldn't mind parking in front of the net.

Big time no from me, unless he falls to our pick.

His attitude is too much of a risk to give up assets for him.

lack of hockey knowledge? lack of common sense? lack of many things come to mind.

Can he skate? That would be a bigger concern than attitude.

Lats attitude seems great however his skating continues to hinder his game.

Attitude can change however skating can only improve so much.

He's not the greatest skater, but his top speed and straight line skating are pretty good for his size.

It's definitely not one of his weaknesses.

Nay he's been one punched and knocked out twice in his short career. Sounds like a Lindros to me.

Don't trade up and get Joe Colbourne.

Attitude can be changed... his physical package, aggressivity and skill level is just exactly what we sorely needed for years !

BUT, as there's nothing predictable in a draft, you have to take some risks, and him having the Habs as his favorite team might be exactly what he need to turn things around.

Who knows, he might become the next Olli Jokinen or the next Chris Gratton...

Know him personally, Gainey and Co. haven't even talked to him yet, 20+ teams already have talked to him. Take it for what it's worth...
