The what-to-do-with-Dandenault thread

Not sure if this has already been discussed now that our season is done, but what's going to happen with Dandenault? I know that during the playoffs, a lot of people were pissed at Carbo for constantly dressing him, but now that we're done, we can look back at the season and see that Dandy didn't dress for pretty much the last quarter of the regular season.

His spot on the blue line has been taken. He can't play as a checking forward. He can't really contribute offensively. He makes 1.5+ million $$ (I think). He's got a year left on his contract. He's also not happy with getting scratched (understandably). So he's obviously lost his spot in the Habs' lineup, with the whole youth movement that's been going on (and will hopefully continue).

Will he be bought out? Will he be traded? Is there any team that could even want him and his contract? Will he stay?

I don't think a buyout is a viable option, because that would give the Habs a cap hit on the 09-10 season, and with the aount of players we need to sign by then, we really can't afford any waste of cap money.

At this point, I don't know if any team would want to trade for him. So I'm guessing he'll stick around for one more season. But that could be quite problematic. If he sits, then he won't be happy and could be a problem in the locker room. If he plays, he takes playing time away from a young gun.

What do you think will happen with Dandenault?

He will be dealt away during the Draft for a late pick to a team who needs a D-man. Gainey will try to find him a place where he will play a lot and be needed.

No buyout please. As I've said earlier, it will end up counting as a cap hit towards our 09-10 season (not a good thing).

Dandenault + Ryder + Smolinski + Any other random crappy players + 1st Round pick for Crosby, Malkin, Hossa and Gonchar. And Fleury if we're lucky. And Therien for giggles.

No cheesecake... Lats will eat it, and that will cause new problems.

Well I certainly don't think he'll be getting bought out as much in the way Dallas was able to dump Niinimaa on us, Gainey will be able to dump Dandy somewhere.

I don't think we can do anything with him. Buying him out would be a waste of time. It's not like we project to having any cap troubles for the coming season, so just hold onto him. We can't possibly stay as healthy next season as we did this season. Eventually he'll draw in. And if not, he can go up and down on waivers, maybe eventually somebody takes him, maybe not. His value is probably zero now. If it's ever going to climb above zero it's probably at the trade deadline next year when a fast, experienced, Cup-ring-wearing veteran defenseman might have some kind of marketability. We can hold him until then. (Or beyond, even).

Uh no. Haven't you heard? These outrageous deals aren't in fashion any more. Nowadays it's the 7 for 1 package. My throw-ins + 1st round pick for your franchise player. But only 1 franchise player, to make things more fair

1. First I grab a blender and take his jersey and blend it into juice.
2. Id grab a steakknife and cut off his leg so he loses any speed he has.
3. Id then inject him with a ton of steroids.
4. Teach him how to play sports on a wheelchair so that he doesnt have to return to us.

Game. Set. Match.

At least the contracts expiring. Someone will give up something for him. A late round pick or low tier prospect would be enough to get him off our books. A team that needs a 3rd pairing stopgap.

He's played his last game as a Hab.

Trade him for a 7th round pick in 2012.
Maybe we can get another S.Kost.

I would trade him for future considerations. That would be sweet! We get rid of his salary for absolutely nothing, that's a perfect scenario.

Are you suggesting we trade for Ribeiro?

If Huet got us only a 2nd round pick... I doubt Dandenault can get us anything more than a bag of used "Jack Strap"... and maybe some old practice pucks...

I think someone would take him on re-entry waivers, but at the same time I think someone would give up a late round pick for his forechecking for one season.

Completely different market but yes Dandy isn't going to fetch much if anything.
