No need to worry about him for a long time.
Keep in mind, the longer the length of the contract the more $$$ we'll have to shell out. 23 yr olds w/ the potential to become $6 mil+/season players do not sign long term @ $3-3.5 million, especially if they're coming off a breakout season. If it's more than 3 yrs we'll have to pay based largely on potential, not just performance to date.

But get him signed, we need him going forward.

Tell that to Dipietro, Rick. That would leave Andrei a UFA at 30 years old for a big payday.(10-12m+? who knows what the salaries will be in 7 years)

There was a comment in the Gazette (maybe from Hickey) that although the media couldn't speak to Andrei a few days ago, a media relations person for the Habs said that when Andrei was told of the 'offer', he had a good laugh about it. No report on if the laughter was about the amount of money he could make or the daftness of the whole rumour. Anyways, it gave the impression that he only recently heard about it, and perhaps not through his agent (although that is speculation on my part - the impression that I got).

We are not in a good situation.

We could sign him long term and he could become another bust, or we could lose him to RFA or Russia...

Its a bit like Higgins, ppl wanted to sign him to long term for a big contract but eh... we still don't know if he will become another Jan Bulis...

I believe we can't match the 4millions offer, unless we go for a short term contract. After all he only played 1 full season... he's too friggin young to get a long term contract. If someone try to steal him as a RFA, i believe we gotta let him go and take those 4 x 1st rounds picks...

The NHL will have to put its pants and make something about the agressiveness of the russian league... Im sick and tired of those gangsters stealing our players... Id say they should ban for life a russian player that doesnt respect its nhl contract and compensate that team with a draft pick or something like that...

Bring 'em all in! The more Russians the better. Most of them know how to skate.

with the rsl threat and kevin lowe still alive we better lock him up long term. If we have to overpay, so be it. We CANNOT lose Andrei. Koivu and Kovy are near the end. We gotta have someone to take their place, right now both kostys are our future star players. I say LOCK EM UP. Lock the guys with heart AND talent. Higgins, Komi, plex also need to be signed long term. We have to let ryder, Smoke go. We need to get rid of Dandy. If Streit is asking too much, let him go (although i like him a lot and would want him back). We gotta act quick. Bob's gonna have lots of work to do! We need to spend less with bottom pairing ant bottom 6 guys.

yeah if the 4mil offer is true, i think it will taker 3 mil from the habs to keep him here. hell if ryder can get 2.9, i dont have much of a problem giving AKost 3-3.5. ideally lock him in for 3 year minimum

I'd like to see AK-46 sign a contract similar to Dustin Brown although i know that we probably would have to pay a bit more.

2.600 2.450 3.500 3.500 3.500 3.500

Replace the 2.6 and 2.450 with 3 and replace the 3.5 with 4 and its pretty much what i expect AK to get. 6 years/22m

I say...

Trade him with Sergei to Chicago for Toews and Barker...

Then the Blackhawks could trade Sharp, Seabrook and their 1st for Gagner, Pitkanen and the 1st from Anaheim.

The Blackhawks would reunite the Kostitsyn-Gagner-Kane line!

give him a long term contract...at least 5 years.

IMO nobody has to worry about Andrei signing in Russia or an offer sheet from another NHL team. The Kostitsyn Bros. are like family now.

I agree with you guys in wanting him signed for 4 or 5 years..

But if we know Gainey, he'll give him a 1 or 2 year deal.

Just ask Higgins, Plekanec and Komisarek.
