Brendan Shanahan appreciation thread

Thanks Shanny, for your leadership, effort, and play.

I personally think you helped bring back some of the prestige to the NYR sweater. Whether Dru, and Gomer would've come here just for the money is an unknown. What is known if this is the end, the NYR will be very grateful for the impression you've made on this organization, and we as fans are grateful.

I want Shanny to stay. He is a great leader and I think he can still put up a 25-30 goal season along with 60 points.

Brendan, I never appreciated how good of a player you were, until I got to watch you play night after night. You've taught our young guys invaluable lessons and been a joy to watch. However, I do not want to be there when they tow you into the station completely out of gas. You're a bright guy with an even brighter future. If you're interested in management, the Rangers would be foolish not to give you a try. You live in NY, I'm sure the league offices may be interested in your services. But please, please, call it a career while you still have something left to give. I don't want to see you being a healthy scratch next season.
Thanks,
SML

He's been great, and one of my favourite Rangers. It's time to think of the good of the team though, and I can't see him here. It's not a personal thing, he just was not up to it recently.

Would love for him to stay, but I think he'll hang 'em up unfortunately. what are his final stats for 07-08?

Shanny was a big contributor to this team. I'm for one more year for Shanny. You have to play him on the 4th line and PK though. You have to resist the temptation of using him on the PP or taking 2nd / 3rd line icetime from others.

I love Shanny.

I respect Shanny.

He is a great guy. A leader. A warrior.

But i think it is time we get a player with quicker feet, at basically teh same price... like Ryder.

Shanahan's always been one of my favorite players. I can't describe how ecstatic I was when the Rangers signed him. Watching him sort of deteriorate this year has been painful.

I'm just glad I got to see one of my all-time favorites play for the Rangers. Thanks Shanny.

Love him, but he's done.

Would do some nice things to get the team back to the playoffs, but that is about it. He just doesn't do anything from then on because he has no room and can't get himself room anymore.

I suppose that I may have thought that being too appreciative of him would sound like an endorsement for the future. But this thread is to thank him, so I shouldn't have been so mean(?)

I do thank you Shanahan for all your effort and the skills you brought, not to mention great leadership. When the Rangers signed you, I was happy for you and for the Rangers.

I appreciate what you have done for the team. Thank you Brendan.

shanahan reminds me of brett favre, always bring great leadership, has a rocket of a shot(favre has a rocket of an arm), they both bring 110% always, they may have games where people hope he retires, then he has games where people hope he doesnt retire, i think shanny will come back and then he will have a terrific season (like favre...not mvp type though) and then he will retire.

Reminds you of Favre?

Favre was still banging bodies at 38 and Shanny stopped a while ago.

One of my all-time favorite players and will always remember him mostly for the player he was prior to being on the Rangers.

Shanny is old but he provided the leadership in the locker room this team needed. And he gave a lot of effort. I am glad he got to play for the rangers. Thank you for a magnificent career and one of the classiest tenures by a Ranger in their history.
