Unless you're talking rental deals at the deadline, then they might go through.
A winger going into his second year, an under performing winger who gets knocked over by a stiff wind, 2nd pairing d-man and an unproven prospect plus a pick.
For a perennial 50 goal scorer in Kovalchuk, or a dynamic 35-45 goal scorer in Gaborik.
lets trade dubinsky callahan staal while were at it. . sang id rather give a shot too before we deal him, what if we kept him and he helped our pp, oh wait, he is not making alot of money and he is not a vet so thats not a good thing
i dont get it, now we made the playoffs 3 straight years and people want us to deal youth enough of putting sang or dubinsky or staal in trades. sang will help our pp, watch he will have a good preseason and make the team during camp only players id deal is tyutin prucha and hollweg. if we can use them to get a top 10 draft pick we should do it but other than that no thanks. if they want staal dubinsky to move up well that team can call someone else
when will sang help our pp? when he's 25? We need a sniper on this team and sang hasn't proven anything yet...
Staal is untouchable as he has proven himself. You cannot compare the two.
has sang played one game in the NHL no he has not, lets give him a chance before we deal him we drafted anismov and cherpanov, lets deal them cause they did not play a game in the NHL yet.
It wouldn't get either. A pack of decent players (including a decent prospect) + pick won't get you a franchise player. Maybe Gaborik if the Wild REALLY didn't want him and wouldn't get much in terms of offers, but Kovalchuk, dream on.
Gaborik has played a full season all of once in his NHL career. No way I move a package like that for him. Kovalchuk is worth talking about, but I still would rather the Rangers develop their own, homegrown sniper.

would rather see that too.... but the problem is is that we don't have one. Maybe Chery but he is a ? and chances are he won't become as good as either.

i hate arguing over these stupid trade proposals because it's all hypothetical, but you're undervaluing our prospects and players. which is no surprise because you are not as familiar with them.
any young top 4 defenseman signed to a relatively cheap long term deal is worth a bit more than his skill would warrent. throw in young nhl winger like dawes that has shown he can score, a very good young defenseman prospect in sanguinetti coming off a year he was one of the if not the best defenseman in his league, and a first rounder. not even considering prucha, that's a good return for a young superstar, and then consider he is in his contract year.
the only thing i see wrong with this is we aren't trading our best prospect or young player and i can see how that would effect trade discussions as those teams would surely ask for them.

As you guys said, the only player we have who has an outside shot to become one is Cherepanov, and that's still uncertain. But who knows where a few years down the road will take us, especially with the stacked 2009 draft. I would love to see Kovalchuk on the Rangers, I just don't think we have the assets necessary to land him - and even if we did I'm not sure I'd pull the trigger.
Nope. Cherepanov perhaps, but I'd rather have a sure thing.
Plus, Sanguinetti has a lot of value on this board because of what he could be, but that doesn't mean much to other teams when they're giving up their franchise player.
Sign Huselius at 4.5, then package him in the deal for Kovalchuk.

The only way these guys move is if the teams are willing to trade them. I'm not saying the players in the package are horrible, but you're talking about a one-man wrecking crew in Gaborik (when he's on...5 goals in one game) and arguably the best sniper (in terms of shot deadliness) in Kovalchuk. Atlanta and Minnesota do NOT become better teams after the deal. In fact, Atlanta loses the only thing that actually let's them compete.
That being said, if both do not want to sign with the team (I don't know the whereabouts of Gaborik's contract), they WILL move, but be assured that a better offer will be on the table. Could it get one of them? Possibly under the right circumstances, but another team will overpay grossely for Kovy or Gaborik.
