Injuries

Mark Streit - Partial tear in his back - Streit – who went through the playoffs with a partial tear in is back "similar to the injury Komisarek had"

Andrei Markov - Banged up Shoulder and Knee - Markov said it was "tough to say" how hampered hhe was by a banged-up shoulder annd knee during the playoffs. He said the injuries were "not bad right now."

Carey Price - Banged up Hand/Fingers?

and an interesting quote from Halak - It's rumoured that Halak may end up in the Russian elite league.

"I'd love to play here in North America," he said. "I'm young, and there's still time to go and play in Europe."

http://habsinsideout.com/boone/8067

sounds like Streit really wants to stay

Isn't there a rule saying only Russian goalie can play in the RSL?

Quote:
Rule changes impacts both clubs and players

Last season gave plenty of reason for fans to talk about all summer. Yet, the talk of the town suddenly shifted based on reports from the league's head quarters. Some drastic rule changes were applied for the 2007-08 season which has not only made clubs having to deal with accordingly. It also has a major impact on players....
Added to this will be another rule applied next season which states that no team is allowed to dress an import goaltender.
http://www.iihf.com/home-of-hockey/n...ash=8c066fb15f

It will be applied next season, which is why Esche and Freddy B were able to play this season. If fact this rule is probably implemented because of them.

Foreign goalies count as 2 import players for their max import player rules....

I'm not sure what the max is though.

The general consensus in the World Championships thread is that Russia probably told him if he didn't, he wouldn't play at the next Olympics. That's the only plausible reason I can think of for him to be continuing to play at this point. By the end of the playoffs, he could barely make a pass.

The Habs who played with injuries during the playoffs.

There was lots of speculation during the playoffs about some players who appeared to be playing with injuries. I was just reading Boone's article at Habs Inside/Out about the Habs autograph session, cleaning out the lockers, and team dinner today at the Bell Centre. Along with a lot of interesting interviews with some of the players about their furure with the Habs Boone lists the injuries some of the players played with in the playoffs.

Mike Komisarek- torn back muscle, and hip pointer.
Mark Streit- Partial tear in back muscle.
Markov- Banged up shoulder and knee.

quit making up excuses.
everyone plays thru injuries.
if your playing youre held responsible, you cant blame an injury for poor performance.

I honestly can't tell from a low quality French-English translation if Price was serious about having fractured fingers. But if he does have them, I would put 100% of the blame on the coach for playing a guy who could not play at 100% and then pretending that nothing was wrong. Sure, Halek wasn't magical in game 4, but he was very solid, and at least one goal (the first) was let in only because he was obviously shaking off rust. If he had played every minute from when Price was injured, well, it might have ended differently.

As I said in another thread, the Flyers were shooting at Price's glove side from the start. Saying it was fine was not going to make them stop shooting there!

It's rumoured that Halak may end up in the Russian elite league.

"I'd love to play here in North America," he said. "I'm young, and there's still time to go and play in Europe.

If he likes to play in NA, there's no way he leaves the Habs. This is an IDEAL position for a 22 year old that wants to get some playing time. Price is young and can be inconsistent. He saw just this in the playoffs and even got a start. He would never get a playoff start with any other team imo. Good team, great opportunity to showcase his talent.

Komisarek - Mike Komisarek was hobbled a torn muscle in his back and a hip pointer.

“With the kind of playoffs I had, I realized that I can still pull my weight in this league,” said Brisebois,

I dont support Brisebois and although he wasnt great in the playoffs, He wasnt our worst.

Does that mean I want him back? NO! not at all.

Some drastic rule changes were applied for the 2007-08 season which has not only made clubs having to deal with accordingly. It also has a major impact on players.

The league expansion from 19 teams to 20 teams was foreseeable (legendary Spartak Moscow and Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod entered the league replacing Krylya Sovetov). The new import rule though came more of a surprise. Compared to the three import players allowed to be dressed for a game last season, Russian clubs can now dress four import players. At first sight, this looks a minor change but the definition of 'import player' had a far greater impact. Any player not eligible to represent the Russian national team in an official IIHF competition is now considered an import player regardless possessing Russian citizenship or not. This group includes players from former Soviet Union nations like Kazakh goaltender Vitali Eremeev and Belarusian Andrei Mezin. Some of these players have decided not to play for their country any longer in order to save their roster spot in Russia. Added to this will be another rule applied next season which states that no team is allowed to dress an import goaltender.

I think you have really misread the quote, it says that he's going to try harder at getting a number 1 role in America for a while and he can play in Europe when he gets older.

I never pay attention to these announcements. All the teams make them, and it's always the guys who just happened to play poorly.

true enough, but it does go hand in hand sometimes...but every team has injuries right now, and it will always be a big part of the two month tournament called the Playoffs...
