What is your preference for next year?

Which of the 3 options appeals to you most?

Or of course, you could choose option 4, and post an alternate way of going that i havent thought of....

So much depends on Jagr...

I'd really like to go after Rolston, then maybe someone like Orpik.

...and then just hope Dawes Prucha Callahan etcetc just really step it up.

this poll assumes that whatever you want can happen. IE, you can get Jagr to sign here (for a contract that makes sense for both team and player), etc.

I think i would let a few people walk

Shanahan, Malik, Backman, Strudwick

resign Straka and Jagr if the price is right

plug in a few of the Hartford boys who are ready

Sign Roszival

option 3 isn't an option unless your goal is to land in the lottery and have a shot at Tavares, which apparently is what many "fans" want.

Agreed - which is why I opted for #4.

1) Sign Jags, but let the rest of the FAs walk. (Edit: maybe keep Avery if the price is right.)
2) Sign one forward and one defenseman.
3) Let the kids fill the rest of the roster spots.

The ol' Chinese menu approach - a litte from each column.

Also, I can see Sather making some changes via trade and, as much as we all like to speculate, what that would mean and how it would impact any subsequent moves is impossible to predict without knowing what assets we'd lose and what we'd gain.

The only FA's I'll keep are Avery, Jagr, Valiqutte, and maybe Mara. On D I want to sign Liles and Orpik. On offense I want Rolston or Ryder and just let the kids fill up the other spots.

whether we re-sign Jagr or not, I believe Rolston is a guy who could help us tremendously. His shot is scary, something we need from the point on the PP, and he's not afraid to shoot. He's also a reliable PKer, his age is not a factor imo...

Sign Roszival
Backman is signed for next year.

I would bring back Struds, he fills the role perfectly

Malik GONE

Rosi GONE

Mara As much as i like the guy, its a numbers crunch & he doesn't fill the ultimate need of a big hitting D. so he is OUT!

Straka I love the guy, but bye bye

Shanny, thanks for the Memories, if you want to come back $2 Million & ur a 3rd liner & special teams guy

Jagr Re-sign the captain 2 years $7 Million w/an option

Get a big body defensemen, Orpik, Gill etc

screw it sign Hossa

I can't see Avery getting a multi year $4 million deal now, one year $2.5 million

Hopefully Sather will resit the urge to trade for Sourary, I hear he is unhappy in Edmonton, & wee see Sans make the team around the all star break.

If Rolston would sign a one year deal I would say yea, but he won't & i'm not the GM I have a feeling Sather is going to get Rolston to replace Avery & Shanny. Watch Rlston get a 3 year deal, which would agravate me to no end, I have a feeling its gonna be a 2 year deal.

Right now we have 4 out of 6 spots filled

Staal
Backman
Girardi
Toots

I would like too see two hard hiting defensemen fill those two spots & wait for Sans to develop

Staal = Very good
Backman = Terrible
Girardi = Good
Tyutin = Average (generous grade)

I would say we have 3 spots filled, with an offensive DMan and physical DMan most definitely needed. Because of this, we might be better off keeping Rozy, depending on the cash needed.

If Jagr goes, it might be time to send Rozy and Straka away also. Else I'd probably lean to keeping them both.

As others have said, without knowing Jagr's plans it's impossible to know what to do with this team's personnel. Presumably Sather will make finding out that answer his 1st and most important task.

Same team but some tweaks to improve certain areas. Replacing Shanny with a younger, faster sniper and adding a couple D-Men who can hit would be enough for me.

Obviously if Jagr decides to move on, then we need a big change in some areas because it would be unlikely that we could replace him man for man. So we would have to improve in multiple areas to cover for his loss.

I think if an elite player or two are there, and you can get rid of some of the deadwood or guys who havent quite measured up you sign them.

Of course the cap could be an issue... but i feel if Avery is resigned for the right price none of that should matter with the cap going up.

BUT it has to be done correctly. You cant put all of your eggs in one basket, so if you can sign one player, either a legit scoring threat or elite defensman, though trade or free agency do it so it doesnt coincide with the Gomez and Drury contracts - and thats difficult.

I want more youth, but veteran youth. Shanahan, Straka and Jagr, thats around 12-14 million off the cap. That enough to get one legit piece and 2 more solid pieces if you get creative.

Do NOT resign Rozsival. I think Mara should stay and i think since his offensive numbers have dropped he may in fact come cheaper if Sather can work some magic.

I my mind the Rangers need more size on the wing to go with Dubinsky and Drury. I think Tyutin can be traded. I think Prucha can be traded. Would love to trade Backman, but one is going to take a 3mil+ contract for a guy that was sat in the 2 biggest playoff games of the prior year.

Malik - bye bye.

I think we are at the point were youth will still be coming up, but there also needs to be some 1 year deals on the wing that can spell some time before Cherepanov comes up.

I like backmans game, he had shown spurts of consitancy, & he is young, IU'm sticking with him.

i changed my mine, Shanny needs to go, Malik, and Mara might go questionable on him, but we need an experienced goal scorer to take shanny's spot

We are not spending 8 mil next year on Lundqvist in his prime, 8 mil on Gomez, 7 mil on Drury... to FLOP a season...

I don't know where you guys are getting this from, but there is no chance in hell Sather and co spend that money to FLOP.

They will sign guys, plug holes with youth, and contend for the Cup. EVERY YEAR.

Why have the highest paid goaltender to flop for a top 5 pick?????

Are you serious?

I think we need to reload. We need a replacement for Jagr at this point, whether he stays or not. He was visably exhausted, by the end of the series and rightly so. He played great, but he and Shanny both showed their ages. We need another big name, or a whole bunch of 2nd tier guys to make up the scoring a superstar would provide. I think I prefer the later actually. If we could come close to 3 or 4 lines that can really net the puck, I think we would have a very happy season. Also maybe VS and NBC could stop harping on Jagr.

Because it basically equals inconsistency.

I agree, Backman is awful and hopefully Sather can get rid of him. Big mistake trading for him. Team would have been better off with Malik or maybe even Strudwick.
