He at least had something that can be called a career in NHL and could still be playing without all those injuries.

Stefan was also a real surprise #1 pick and was not so much hyped before draft, so was he actually a bust or Atlanta´s scouting?

The 1999 draft in general was extremely weak as well. The first round is full of players that didn't go anywhere in the NHL.

Disappointment picks aren't bust picks. Bust picks are picks that just crash and burn and start to play in the ECHL. (AJ Thelen......)

I ask myself, would I want to draft a guy like Sjostrom with an 11th overall pick? My answer is no, I would not be happy with him, and that's my criteria.

Tanabe is pretty bad too. For someone with as much ability and size, he is one useless defenseman. Also, he was really hyped when he first broke through and the fact that he's regressed to the point of being a spare part is pretty disappointing.

Vishnevsky is a bust the same way Stefan and Zyuzin are busts. The guy was drafted as a Russian Scott Stevens at 5th overall, was supposed to backbone the Ducks defense for years and he's done none of that. Again, would I want that kind of result with a number 5 pick? Nope. He's a bust.
except sjostrom is still very young and developing. if you bother to look at many swedish stars - MANY started off slow. he doesn't have just one specialty; he's a team first kind of guy with blazing speed and a great attitude. he's had a few flashes of offensive brilliance ... but will he ever be a first liner? probably not. but a third line guy is hardly a bust.

Vorobiev isn't a bust.

he was on fire with the Hawks, but somehow, the organization didn't like it. his ice time went down. he struggled and was later sent to the AHL.

left for Russia since.

Except B.Pouliot was picked FOURTH overall and has put up mediocre AHL numbers in addition to mediocre NHL ones. Not bust yet, but not hitting the projections of a top-5 pick

Even Marc-Antoine Pouliot who was picked 22nd in 2003 has progressed better (with all his injury problems). And their age difference is about 18 months.

Milan Kraft should not be listed as a bust either ... 40 pts in 66 games before the lockout .. went home to Europe and hasn't returned for whatever reason.
The hype around Woywitka when he was a flyer was absolutely ridiculous around here...people were talking number 1/all star type defensemen.

Pouliot played very well for the Wild once he got the chance.

Let's try again shall we? A disappointment isn't necessarily a bust.
