I don't know guys. Obviously nobody else is hearing these things, but at the same time I trust my guy who is likely more connected then any of you....hope nobody is offended by that, it's just he's extremely connected in the CHL. I know Ovechkin got rid of his agent, and an entry level deal isn't exactly hard to do. But at the same time it's just odd that I hear this guy tell me this about a month ago, and then this news comes out, pretty much as he expected (he didn't call that THIS was going to happen, but that JT's mom would be a problem).

I guess we could all just sum it up to if you guys trust me (and you should because if I wanted to start rumours I would come up with a helluva lot better one then this!), it's something to watch for down the road.

It looks like Tavares' mother is not his agent.
That's what Jeff Marek was speculating yesterday on HNIC radio, I should have been more clear about that in the OP that it was speculation and not fact. Thanks for clearing that up dude!

Predict Tavares' numbers

Alright just throwing this out for the heck of it.

Oshawa 62 GP; 64g-89a-153 points. Just my thought.

He misses some time going to the WJC in Ottawa where he wins Gold and leads the tournament in scoring. He also lifts Oshawa to either the OHL finals or the Mem Cup. Just another prediction. This is HIS season, what he does will decide how far ahead he gets of Hedman

If Tavares wants to make this year count (and seperate himself from Hedman), it won't be because of his point totals or how easily he can score. Tavares can make this a successful year by using it to shore up the holes in his game, i.e. skating, 2-way play, etc.

couldnt have said it better myself, he may have scored less goals this season but he didn't need to the team was much more than the one line they had 2 seasons ago....the gens are losing a lot of players but i think he can hit 150 points, but as stated everyone knows he can score and has a knack for the net...but its his improved play away from the puck that will make him the clear cut #1 if it improves.

90% of offensively gifted forward prospects are average to bad defensively.

I don't see how Tavares should be an exception.

I see him putting up great numbers, but the most important thing we'll see is much better lower body strength, better foot speed and better two-way play. He's already demonstrated that he's willing to get better at these (his skating and two-way play was better last year than the year before IMO).

I really hope the Gens get a good coach, he needs a guy that can guide him to being a really good player, not just letting him do what he wants.

90%? Hardly.

And Taveras should be an exception because he wants to be a GREAT, winning player...as a opposed to a fantasy league pretty boy stat machine.

I think he's going to have a really big year next year, no matter how it shapes up.

Have you ever seen WJC? Majority of undrafted defenders can't play defense let alone forwards.

If he plays the whole season with Oshawa, anything over 110 points is just unbelievably impressive. As it stands right now Tavares is going to be playing with like Kory Nagy and Shea Kewin. I really like Nagy but both are not exactly you're prototypical offensive player to say the least.

I hate predicting numbers, but I think if a team like London acquires him he could put up some pretty substantial numbers with some of the talented wingers they have on their roster right now.

I don't see him playing the entire year with Oshawa. He needs to be traded to a winner. He needs a long playoff run.

I'm with the group that says he needs to work on his all round game, show he is a complete first line player(as opposed to last years PP spacialist role) and produce at the WJC. Also the skating and strength need to show improvement.

Also it would be best that any of the outside garbage from his camp cease and he just show up and play hockey. Before some get started I do know that the early drafting stuff wasn't started by the kid but by adults in his camp and I'm not blaming him but it does affect him . ie .....doing those interviews where he spoke of being drafted with his peers ect.
He wasn't and isn't NHL ready now and does has things left to learn in Junior and to actually separate himself from other prospects if he is going to go first overall. At this point that isn't a Crosby no brainer thing.

Best thing he could do is show up in Oshawa and just play. As a Gens fan I'd be fine with him going at the OHL trade deadline to help the team rebuild for the following year. Sorry big Phil the Gens don't have a hope for a OHL title this year.
Worst thing his camp could do would be to try force something at this point so JT could end up on a OHL contender.
That IMO wouldn't send the right message to NHL teams in a Lindros kind of way.

Maybe they arent the favourites, but the sky's the limit for this kid. We dont know how dominant he's going to be this year. He could crack 150 points and play and even better all around game.

It depends I think.

I can see him doing a 60(GP) with 45+80=125..
