Alex Bourret whats the deal?

21 Years old
54GP 9G 33Pts 78PIM then had four points in five playoff games.

He really needs to put a solid AHL season in front of him but he has good hands and hits a lot.

Could he be a Torres type player 20ishG 150+ hits a season? Torres did not make the NHL full time until he was 22 and his AHL numbers compared to Bourret at the same age are pretty close.

To me it looks like Bourret is following a similar path as Torres and that's not a bad thing, Torres is a pretty good player.

I could easily see him being a Torres-esque player. He's built like a ****ing tank.

Not trying to put you down or bash your Fuhr, I'm just simply curious; Why are you so interested in Rangers prospects?

Because I like the Ranger farm system. I have interest in lots of guys around the league and space my curiosities out as to not flood every board with questions and opinions. I like hockey whether it be for gambling or fantasy purposes, opinions and knowledge of every team and there farm system is nice.

Bourret disappears from the scoresheet for stretches. From what I hear he also has a tendency for very bad turnovers. He's struggled with his +/- as well. He was the only minus regular forward for most of the season until he got it back to even at the end. He needs more work, maybe more dedication. Talent wise what I've heard is he's extremely creative. He's also a very good bodychecker and he has had good playoffs. There have been injuries. I think he's spending at least one more season in Hartford.

More time. A year or two. I wouldn't be shocked to see him crack the NHL at 23.

I'd be happy if he became a Torres-type player. I saw the kid play in Hartford this past year and he can just fly.

slim to none. He needs another year in the AHL minimum.

All Bourret has to do to get to the NHL is sort his head out. He's incredibly talented and has all the skills and physical tools required to play there now. He just needs to learn to absorb what the coaching staff tells him, and put the work in to make it happen. There was a point about mid-way through the season that he seemed to figure that out, but he got hurt shortly after, came back briefly, got hurt again, and then didn't make it back until the final few games of the season.

His biggest problem this season is that he didn't follow the strength and conditioning plan he was given over the summer. After he got cut early in camp as a result, he proceeded to play with a chip on his shoulder for the first half of the season, which landed him in the coach's dog house.

Oh Bourret... just get it together!

He could be an improved version of Lapointe. But questionable conditioning and attitude seem to hold him back. And sometimes players just never come around. Injuries haven't helped him either, and for a smaller (in height) player who plays a rough and tumble style you have to be a bit concerned.

I hope he learns from past mistakes and spends this summer wisely. Next year could be make or break for him with the Rangers.

The kids 21 years old. A lot of people that age still need to mature regardless if they are an athlete or not. If maturity is the only thing lacking then that is a problem that will be fixed with life expeirence.

Well hopefully he matures b4 he finds himself on the outside looking in, I've seen this all too often in other can't mis prospects in the past.

Not sure which speech you're referring to, but there was a point around midway through the season where he seemed to have an epiphany of sorts, and started saying -- and doing -- all the right things. But it wasn't long after that that he got hurt. And he didn't really get back into the line up for a good enough stretch of games after that to get a feel for whether that change in attitude remained.
