What do you think it would take to get him? I think he would be the perfect match playing with Gomez. With their speed, and Roy being able to finish (scored more than 30 goals), I think they can be dangerous together.
The thing is Roy is actually pretty good on face offs and is a good centremen in his own right...so I'm not sure outside of PP how much they would play together...
he is a great player though...but I think with contract Roy has 4 mill a year he's a bargain and thus would cost a ton in assets..
Forget Roy.... Get AFINOGENOV!!! He is the perfect fit with gomez. He has the speed and has that pure scoring ability that our team needs. He also wouldnt cost that much.
People have been putting packages together for Kovalchuk and Gaborik. Don't get me wrong, I'd love either one of them but that would take A LOT. If we were going to trade for someone, I'd like Roy . I'm sure the deal would be significantly less. With Gomez, I really think he can be a 40 goal scorer.

Maybe- Prucha and a 2nd or 3rd
For
Afinogenov
Afino is a really bad acquisition. He's like a speedy Jagr (not a compliment). He just circles around and never takes any shots. We want to rip our hair out when Nylander didn't shoot and this guy is 10 times worse.

any guys with speed that play a physical game that can play, we got enough non physical fansy wingers. i take any one of these: Stafford, gaustad, kaleta, or steve bernier..
maybe Prucha Tyutin to Sabres
Stafford and Kaleta to rangers

i dunno what Stafford's value is.
stafford is about on par with bernier and we got bernier and a first for campbell and a second.
i can't see kaleta leaving the sabres anytime soon. he's a hometown hero and fan favorite. our front office disappoints enough.

Who?
Even if you are including our UFAs Jagr is the only "non physical fancy winger" on the team.
Callahan? Avery? Dawes? Sjostrom? Orr? Hollweg?
All physical. And certainly not fancy.
All take the body when it is called for. They don't go out of their way LOOKING to hit someone (except Hollweg). That is not how it works. You don't go on the ice with INTENT to hit someone, that results in stupid penalties (Hollweg).
When the opportunity presents itself to hit someone, while not taking your self out of the play in the process, THAT is a good hit, also if you do it cleanly.
So again... who are all of these fancy non physical wingers you speak of?
People crave size on the wing no matter of what cost of ability it takes.
Malone? Terribly overrated. What skills does he have. Can he create scoring opportunities on his own? No. So what is the point?
Guys like Dubinsky and Jagr use their size to create space for themselves. Malone does not.
Size is nice, but if you sacrifice speed and skill for size you are hurting your team.
We have a couple of guys with some size and skill in the system: Anisimov and Hillier.
Also, once Cherepanov matures he will have some nice size and strength to him as well.

well explain that to Sather when he signed malik, if malik was physical than lack of speed would not be that much of an issure. its like what if orr never fought again, whats the point of having a big winger or dman that is slow but not physical and not enough skill, whats the point. tom poti has size, vlad malakhov has size, jeff toms have size. whats the point of having size and not using it either by hitting people or to controll the puck.

My point was that people want big forwards. But there are not any great big forwards available. Malone has size, but he does not use it like guys like Dubinsky and Jagr.
Dubinsky and Jagr are big. The difference between them and a guy like Malone is: Jagr and Dubi use their size and strength to create THEIR OWN room. They use their body's to shield the puck. To control the puck.
Malone only leaches off of OTHER players hard work, by grabbing rebounds and scoring junk goals.
Again, Malone is not a game breaker, not a tempo changer, not a puck controller. So what is the point of getting Malone or someone like him? Yes his size is "sexy" but his skill set is not, because he does not use his size properly.
Malone racked up points, and not many, playing with the likes of Crosby, Malkin, Hossa, Sykora,... who are guys who can create their own scoring chances.
See, to me, if a player has size, he better use it, and that doesn't mean checking the crap out of players. That means using his body to shield the puck, using his size to control the puck, and create his own space to either set up a teammate or create his own scoring chance.
And that is why i like Ryder more. He at least has a great skill set. And can score 30 goals.
Plus, looks like Malone learned a thing or two from Crosby:
But, that doesn't mean i won't root hard for him or anyone else if they end up in a Rangers jersey.
Maxim Afinogenov has pure scoring ability? HAHAHHHAA. The guy has wheels, I will give you that. But it would be foolish to suggest that he is the type of goal scorer we need. Outside of a few years when the Sabres were scoring goals like it was NHL 96 on Sega, he's been a disappointment. There is a reason they want him out of Buffalo. We also play a much tighter system than Buffalo does, so if Jagr was struggling to score goals in our system, its safe to say Max would too.

What's up with these pathetic trade proposals that ALWAYS include Hollweg or Prucha plus a 2nd-4th Round pick for a point per game player???
Prucha is realistically worth MAYBE a 4th or 5th rounder while Hollweg is worth 'Future Considerations'...

marcel hossa has size and used it only down low to control the puck, he never hit, never stood in front, and did not score much with jagr. size dont matter unless that player uses it. imagine if avery was 6'4 220 and played the same game as he does now. avery is small but he uses every bit of size he has, same with hollweg although he sux.

Well, the thing with Marcel is that i believe expectations were put on him that were unrealistic because of who his brother is.
He doesn't contain that kind of offensive prowess.
He was more of a defensive specialist, that could put some pressure on in the offensive zone, while not really being much of a scoring threat. That is why he is a 4th liner player.
As has been mentioned, Roy is a center, and the Rangers don't need any more depth down the middle. But hey, if we're talking trade ideas, you've got a particular defenseman that didn't have his best season *coughTYUTINcough* that I'd love to pry loose.
