Pass. Mats is a good guy, but if we're going to spend money on offense, it has to go towards a winger.

OMFG. Seriously??? What on earth makes anyone think Sundin is going to take less money to go to a new city? He is every bit the player Jagr is right now. He more than likely will get the same European offers Jagr will. I love that you can actually have a place in your brain where every player in the league is dying to fulfill his lifelong dream of playing for the Rangers at way less than market value. Now enough of your alternate reality, back to the real world. Sundin, is about as close of a match to Jagr in terms of talent and situation as you're going to find. I'd say both of them will either resign with their current teams or "retire" from the NHL, to go play in Europe on bigger ice, against weaker competition, for shorter seasons, making more money and being even bigger celebrities. If I'm wrong, I'll start an entire thread about me being a jackass and bow down to your immense hockey wisdom.

I said a reasonable amount of money.
As far as Struds being re-signed I think its almost a given he will be back as the extra defensemen forward, Renney & Sather love him.

maybe if it was last year.
I actually think Sundin and Jagr would probably have meshed...They both play possession games and oh wow...Sundin unlike Nylander, Straka can actually finish.
This year we have too much tied up in centres...no thanks.

At this stage of their careers, based on the regular season play

Sundin>Jagr

Put Mats on the wing

We already know Jagr can't play with Gomez.Jagr didn't make much of an effort there

Word is the New York Rangers will offer Maple Leafs Captain Mats Sundin 7 million a season this summer. I find that a little crazy with the other centermen they have in the mix

of course the very fact that you literally cant afford to pay him that kind of money, makes the post all the more preposterous.

i wouldnt be opposed to it if you can get Jagr+Sundin for a total of 10 mil.

Not sure how on earth you can talk 2 7 million dollar players to take that big of a pay cut, but if you can do it, then id be on board. and of course we all know, the Rangers need me to be on board before they make any decisions.

IF we sign Sundin, its just another mark on our "signing over the hill, huge name vets" record. Ugh. I'd accept him of course, but its not helping our "youth movement" mentality. We shall see.

not really, its about smart contracts. you can sign vets (and Sundin is far from over the hill imho) as long as the contracts arent long.

A lineup of...

Avery Dubinsky Jagr
Dawes Gomez Sundin
Prucha Drury Cally
Sjo Betts Korpedo

is actually an insanely young lineup, not an insanely old lineup.

Where are we gonna find the money to sign Jagr, Sundin, Malone and Avery, with Dawes and Sjostrom being RFA's and then having to fill holes on defense as well?

yea, I guess, didn't say I wouldn't want him, just didn't think Sather would dip in this pool again. I'd sign for that lineup right now. I don't think he's "over the hill: but I think you know what I meant, he's def past his prime. THou he's Def. a great leader and someone who can match Shannys production.

well both qualify for the 1 year deferred contracts (are you allowed to have 2 on a team?)

but beyond that, it would take both Sundin and Jagr to take less than fair market value to hop on board, and also it would take the team not upgrading the Defense and depending on kids. Is it doable? Yes. Is it my ideal lineup? No. Do I prefer that lineup over the one we fielded this year? Hell yeah.

I don't know, but you can only exceed the cap by a certain amount

What you show looks pretty good. Just saying that after reading some posts in this thread, the anti-age thing get a bit weary. NYR is not an old team. When people on this board wax endlessly about the need to sign Jagr, this same age factor is not mentioned. Sundin is rugged, finishes, is in fact one of the most rounded players in the world. No, he is not Jagr, nobody is. And in some ways, that is a good thing.

Never mind, doubt it is happening. So never mind that, but I disagree with anyone questioning what Sundin could add to the Rangers. If what they are saying is that he is a centre and we don't need one, well I guess okay, But, I would still say this guy is exactly the type of forward the Rangers need. Of course it will not happen, but that guy would be the bruising power forward that would count for a lot of offense over a season.
