Baranka or Potter?

Who do you think is better right now, and who do you think will be better in the long run. and what do you see them as in their primes

I like Baranka, think he's more skilled and a better overall Dman and has a higher upside. Just has to stay healthy and compete hard in camp this fall.

Baranka has more potential but Potter might be the better one right now. It's a close race.

Baranka, for exactly what bluenote said. Plus, he's a year and a half younger.

Baranka has a great skill set. He could surprise a lot of people Girardi-style if he stays healthy. That, of course, is the big question.

Liked what I saw of Baranka during his call up. Had a bit a snarl to him.

If only Baranka could stay healthy for a full season.

If he is having these problems with health in his early 20's then you have to be concerned.

Potter is healthy, and had a huge year in Hartford. Played 81 games and was a +32.

Baranka is already a PPG player in the NHL right now.

Seriously though, Baranka has a higher potential if he can stay healthy. Potter is probably the safer pick.

Baranka. Potter's +/- rating is not telling. He isn't that good. Baranka has a higher upside offensively and defensively.

Potter on accomplishment and being NHL-ready.

Baranka on talent.

Potter seems like a fringe player to me. Baranka could be an NHL player, but the kid just can't keep his momentumn going.

Hard to tell because you have to see how they perform at the "show" and really get a view for their faults and strengths.

Baranka, and it's not even close.

His health problems have held him back to this point, and you can only wonder if he'll be able to overcome those problems.

I think that this will be a very telling year for Baranka. If he cannot make the team this year, providing that there is a spot to be won, he may get passed on the depth chart. I would love for him to seize the bull by the horns if there is a spot on the defense to be won in camp.

Potter's a better AHL player...

I think that Baranka has a better chance of becoming an NHL player though. His consistency has been an issue at the AHL level, but of course, many AHLers seem to have consistency problems. Korps was pretty inconsistent last season and he's already been annointed a third liner next season. Byers was quite inconsistent last season and he's replacing Hollweg, at a minimum.

I'd say that has quite a bit to do with Hollweg as well.

Baranka is a solid 3/4 dman if he can stay healthy. I think he'll be fighting for a 5/6 spot next season.
