Trade Lafleur

Why did we even draft him in the 1st place. We've already got henrik, wiikman, and vally. Now we have Leneveu, and even holt and zaba. So why don't we trade him for a 2nd-3rd rounder before he pulls a Montoya.RRRRROOOOAAAARRRR!!!

Don't think we would get much of a return for him.

You need goalies in the system. Even if Lundqvist is our guy for the next 10 years we still need a quality backup on the big squad (Vally is a short term solution) as well as quality netminders for Hartford, Charlotte, etc. There is no point in trading Lafleur at present.

What does pulling a Montoya mean? Lafleur was a mid second rounder, and a reach at that in many eyes.

Hank is Hank, Vally is a vet that is not in the longterm plans IMO, Miikka's gonna be in HFD for awhile unless he plays his way to a backup job with NYR, Holt/Zaba are scrubs right now.

You need good goaltending depth so your minor league team enjoys some success and gives the other draft picks a taste of winning.

I don't see what the problem is, do we now create threads to trade every prospect that has a down year?

i don't believe we had wiikman signed till after we drafted lafleur, and there was no way of knowing how good he was till after this season. having valley, zaba, holt and leneveu means nothing. nor is it important that we have henrik. it's the same argument for why we kept montoya for so long. you need an insurance policy.

put a little more thought into your post next time.

Yea, a pretty terrible pick, I wanted Akim Aliu in the 2nd round.

Digging pretty deep to find something to complain about here.

None of us want to think about the possibility, but what if Lundqvist gets hurt?
You'll be pretty glad we had some goalie prospects in the system.

Chicken Little

Oh, no! A 19 year old second round pick had a diasappointing season. His development is ruined! The sky is falling. The sky is falling.

If you'd like to make a stink about wasted 2nd round picks, perhaps you should focus on Darin Olver (2nd round in 2004), Bruce Graham (2nd round in 2004) and Lee Falardeau (2nd round in 2002) for starters. At least enough time has passed to know that they have no future in the NHL.

Goaltenders take longer to develop anyway and it was said when he was drafted (based on his size and raw skills) that he was a bit of a project for Allaire. Relax and let him work with the kid when he becomes a pro. He still has plenty of development time left.

I wasn't crazy about the pick when it happened (I was in Columbus when it was made) and I'm still not completely sure why it was done. But the guy has absolutely no trade value at the moment. Hold onto him and monitor his progress.

i guess "trade lafleur" is a natural progression since no one can post "trade montoya" threads anymore.

It'll be trade Wiikman by January.

Too much goaltending depth anyway. Didn't you guys know that Vally could be just as good if not better than Hank?

Ooh! Not to dig up old news, but I didn't want any part of Aliu on the Rangers at the time. We were looking at drafting strong personalities as well as talent.

I think the issue with Lafleur is basically that, with the direction the Rangers' goaltending stable has taken (Wiikman & LeNeveu in Hartford, Valley well established as backup), we won't really be offering him a good environment to develop. In addition, he hasn't shown enough to really warrant the Rangers getting rid of anyone to make space for him, not even Holt or Zaba.

Has Wiikman signed an NHL contract? Last I knew he was on an AHL deal... haven't seen anything indicating he signed with the Rangers, but I have been kind of out of touch since doomsday last Sunday.
