4.5M for a Rucinsky-like 2nd line player? Pleks will ask for 5M and Kost 3.5M. Then Higgins will want 5M too and Komi 3.5M. That's 17M in 4 players.

... Plus Lecavalier's 8M

Let's take Komi for example, if there was no realistic way he could leave the Habs for another 4-5 years or so...why would the Habs offer him big money in his next contract? They would wait for his next one.

With RFA poaching and UFA age brought down, teams start to want to lock up their young guns quick and for long.

I think this is all new CBA related and turning out to be a great thing for the players.
I agree with everything you've said Fido. My point was that no matter what CBA was in place. The great young stars, would still be making big money. The Crosby's/Ovechkin's/Phaneuf's.

IMO the new CBA and RFA poaching has effected the mid-level young star players the most. Players like Patrick Sharp for example, would never have received the type of contract he received in the past.

I also agree with you. I'm pretty sure I'm also in agreement with kachino.

It's no fun to discuss with you guys.

Actually Bobby Clarke did it before Lowe when he made that crazy offer sheet for Kesler. It's been done ever before that, but I can't remember the players or teams involved off hand.

There was Sakic way back when off the top of my head. Fedorov too, I think.

IIRC, Sergei Fedorov by the Carolina Hurricanes and Joe Sakic by the NYR...

Clarke did it back in the day too, with Chris Gratton, he's the original pioneer!

You sir are the only one who answered the question:

What will Plekanec fetch when he'll become a pending RFA?

Depends on next season?

If it was now, I'd say something between 2 and 3.

Bruins, Kobasew Agree To Three-Year Contract

Quote:
Kobasew will earn $2 million next season, $2.5 million in 2009-10 and $2.5 million in 2010-11.
Again, the comparison game... Will Andrei Kostitsyn fetch something similar to that this summer?

At least 3.5 M. 4-5 if they want to sign him for anything over 5 years.

-The Kazan story is looking more like speculation from the Edmonton Journal's source. Andrei denied several times having been contacted by Kazan. He said in 2 separate interviews in the Russian press that he wanted to sign with Montreal.

-Aq Bars Kazan also denied having even considered bringing Kostitsyn over. They added that from their end, they didn't think Andrei had any intentions to come to Russia. They consider the 4 M$ (which would make him the highest paid player in Russia) as ridiculous. Among other things, they said they would have substantially less salary room to play with next season because of the new Kontinental League salary cap.

All these new contracts are super front loaded now. I'm surprised it is given without seemingly reducing the total amount paid (at least on a 2:1 basis or something). They are giving the players extra millions on the face value of the contract by paying up front. If anything the CBA clause should be more strict than it is.
