Red Wings / Penguins Stanley Cup Finals

So, it looks like it will be a Red Wings / Penguins final this year for the Stanley Cup.

I for one am glad this has been the outcome, the two teams that were clearly the best heading in to the playoffs come out to face each other for Lord Stanley's cup. The two teams look to sweep in the conference finals, and that hasn't happened since the Pens/Hawks did it in 1992, and that turned into a great Stanley Cup final (only the 94 Rangers team topping it since of course ) So it should be a great series.

As much as I hate the team formed entirely by the grace of Gary Bettman in the Pens, they got the stars to fill in what will be a great story line. The Red Wings, the closest thing to a prevailing hockey tradition, the dynasty (even though I know they got some great young players also), vs. the Pens, with all their young potential HOF talent, the team of destiny.

I think this restores some credibility to the league, rather than the random crap shoot that the Stanley Cup playoffs has evolved in to for quite some time (no, there is no such thing as a hot goalie you ride, thats a complete illusion).

I am rooting for the Red Wings, of course. You guys?

Go WINGS! I don't ever want Crosby to lift the Cup until he stops his act.

I think the Wings would win but I'm pulling for the Penguins.

Let 'em finish off the Flyers in 4 and then sweep the Wings. That'll make us the 2nd best team in the NHL.

I'm with you buddy. I don't think I could choke down a Penguins Cup right now although at least there's some solace in the fact that we got our ***** handed to us by the Cup winners. Makes that part a bit more palatable.

The Wings will make those Penguins look like a buncha chickens, running around with no heads.

I would like nothing more then to see Cindy sad in the pants.

Why not?

I've been a Ranger fan for 50 years.

Anyway, I'm sick of all the insufferable West>East posters. Remind me of the
19-0 Patriot posters.

Just the thought of all the commercials there will be of Crosby raising the cup makes me sick to my stomach. If you thought the fellating was bad now, wait till he wins a cup.

Go Wings!

I'm rooting for the Wings, not so much because the Pens beat us or because of Crosby's antics, but the Wings are just a powerhouse and they can beat the Pens it's going to be a great series though.

I somewhat agree, but the super bowl is one game. Detroit seems to be the class of the league and should prevail over a seven-game series.

Although my mind cannot comprehend how one would cram MORE Sid Crosby promotion into NHL air time, you can only be right.

On the bright side, it's got the makings of a classic final.

If it is Pens-Wings, it's got to be one of the top 3 dream scenarios for the league. If you can't market this series, you can't market this game.

I'd love to see McCarty win the cup again. He's a hard player who looks out for his team and since he sorted out Claude Lemieux he's been one of my favoured players.

It would make me puke to see Roberts lift it.

Let's go Wings

Exactly what I was thinking too. As much as I dislike the Penguins, this series is great for the sport as a whole. Should be a great series as well.

It would be wrong to not go for the original six team over the team that has had to be saved by the league.

You mean saved by Lemieux.

And Pittsburgh Pro Hockey has been around a lot longer then Detroit, NY, etc.

Aye, two teams both not alike in dignity. In fair Detroit where we lay our scene ....

Both cities have been devastated by economic woes, yet the NHL franchises located in the two have endured in two totally different ways. If not older it seems like the Detroit tradition is bigger than the Pittsburgh tradition seeing as Motor City hums along without intervention by white knight owners or fortuitously bouncing lottery balls.
