Jim Balsillie - Quebec should've its own NHL team

http://www.radio-canada.ca/sports/ho...vendredi.shtml

« Oui, je pourrais financer l'aréna, a ajouté le mécène. Le Canada est un pays prospère, les gens aiment le hockey. L'aréna serait rempli du jour au lendemain. »

Basically says he could finance a new arena.

Anyone good enough to translate the whole thing?

He wants to bring a franchise in Hamilton. But if he does, Toronto would want one too.

Seriously, I'd love to see it happen. I live in Quebec City. Hamilton isn't nearly as large of a market as here, which gives me hope. Winnipeg has the edge right now with its arena, but if Bals does want to finance one here, I'll be extremely happy.

That guy is a megalomaniac...

How much is that man worth anyway? No way in hell he can finance the build up of a franchise... I don't know... "Il est louche, selon moi"...

He wants to have a god like icon for a city in Canada... He wants to be the "hero" that brings a NHL franchise in a city.... I smell a glory ***** ....

He's one of the biggest hockey promoters
He's tried to buy the Penguins, Predators and Sabres, each time he didnt try to hide his intent on moving the team to Hamilton.
He went to the World Championships for pleasure and love of the game. Quebec should get it's team back
He thinks Canada needs another team in the NHL. Canada can definatly support another team, theirs enough interest and fans. Weather he is involved or not, the country needs another team or 2.
Quebec would need a new arena to support a team.
He does have the money to finance a new rink, the arena would be filled day in and day out

Like Bill Lee was in baseball, I think Mr. Balsilie is going to be black balled by the NHL board of governors. Not literally, as that would be rude, but I think he's burned some bridges.

I'm warry of businessmen talking off the backhand of financing new NHL arenas in cities they have never before shown interest in.

I still don't quite size him.

Not until he gets an NHL team in Canada. Then, it will be something else.

Geez, what'd the guy ever do to you? He's a Canadian billionaire who wants to relocate a franchise to Canada. What's so wrong with that?

We're Canadian, thus brought up to hate success.

He opens the door to finance an arena...

...I don't care if he does it to be worshiped or not...

I will kiss his feet anytime, anywhere if it brings back hockey to my city!!!

If you where him, would you prefer Winnipeg over Québec?

And don't tell me it's not interesting to see George Gillette in the stands cheering and boosting his team...

C'mon having such devotion and heart in an investment his hard to come by.

These type of "windows of opportunity" can close pretty fast...I just hope that the right people heard his comment and have already picked up the phone...

That would be sweet. Even though I will eventually grow to hate his team, just renewing a Quebec intra-province rivalry would be incredible.
