1. Gary Thorne will stop mispronouncing Cheechoo because he's gonna be someone you pay attention to this year
2. Sturm will break 30 Goals
3. Toskala will get the backup and Kipper will be gone
4. Thornton will get 25-30 goals
5. Marleau will silence the questioners finally, with his first season fulfilling his potential
6. Fahey will be the guy everyone suddenly asks if we’d trade in those obnoxious lop sided threads
7. Ricci will play bloody
8. Nabakov will establish himself solidly as an elite goaltender and shake off last year and the doubters
9. The Sharks will be 1st or 2nd in most improved record in the league
10. 6th to 8th seed in the Playoffs

1. PK will be in the middle of the pack!
2. PP will be one of the worst in the league! As much as I love them, they have very little firepower!
3. Marleau will NOT do anything until he is moved to wing, if that will ever happen!
4. Nabby will return to form, but 2-1 and 3-1 games will be a norm, with the SJS taking the short end more often than not!
5. We will lose more than we win

Wish I could be more upbeat, but some of the predictions in this thread are outright hillarious! Lets take a minute, take a deep breath, and realize the situation!

10) Michalek starts the year in SJ, and plays 50+ games with the big club. Boyes, Zalesak, and Preissing all get short stints (under 25 games) with the big club this year.
9) The Sharks do not pull the trigger on any "major" deal, outside of #4, if that could be considered major.
8) Stuart and Fahey both register over 35 points.
7) Parker scores 10+ goals.
6) The Sharks have 6 players with 20 goals. Ricci, McCauley, Marleau, Sturm, Korlyuk, and Thornton.
5) Nabokov plays damn well.
4) Damphousse is traded at the trading deadline.
3) The Sharks special teams: PP = 15th, PK = 15th.
2) The Sharks do not have a player up for any major award.
1) The Sharks finish somewhere between 6th and 10th in the Western Conference.

So Vinnie will do this year what he wouldn't do last year in waiving his no-trade clause?

1. Sharks will make a spirited run at the post season, but will fail.
2. A referee calls a bad game (from the Sharks pov) against Detroit.
3. Sharks will have a decently balanced lineup with goals coming from whomever they can get them. On chatboards ppl will recall the days when the team had three scoring lines.
4. Marleau will score 30 goals.
5. No one will pick up Kiprusoff in the waivers.
6. X-SHARKIE will learn the difference between some quite similarly pronounced words and will do well.
7. Two regular top6 forwards get injured for a lenghtened period, thus making room in the top lines for guys like Ekman who prove Kevin right. Again.
8. Cheechoo will score over 10 goals.
9. The New Ownership will do something not funny and the joyous days of Gund spring to our minds...
10. Sharks win the lottery.

A few points

1. Scott Hannan emerges as the most consistent blueliner for the sharks. He continues his development to the point where the rest of the league knows how friggin good this guy can become.

2. Emergence of Hannan as well as excellent upside to Ehrhoff allows sharks to explore option of moving Rathje at the trade deadline.

3. Due to not making the playoffs, the sharks look to purge more contracts by the trade deadline. Watching Thornton go, as well as either Ricci or Vinnie. They get more promising youngsters in return.

4. with spots free on the big club, Boyes plays the final part of the season for Sharks.

5 Kyle Mclaren plays excellent hockey and suits up for 75 games, puts the Zednik hit behind him and regains some nastiness.

6 Michalek has a good October, but production starts to fall off come November. He is sent down for more ice time, better conditioning. Comes back to sharks after trade deadline purges. Plays very well in his 2nd callup.

7 Cheechoo is a regular on the 3rd line, plays all 82 games

8 Nabokov plays his usual excellent game, but its not enough as sharks take enough minors and lose the special teams battles all year long.

9 Marleau now attracts attention of other teams top defensive players. He has an inconsistent season of very hot and very cold. Ends up with about 65 points.

10 Ron Wilson begins to put into place the system he hopes will help the sharks turn the corner and maintain consistency for years to come.

I dont want to nit pick a post...cause I seem to get that alot lol.

But his conditioning is no problem at all. In fact his conditioning has amazed the Sharks. He scored the highest in many fitness tests of any Shark.

With Zalesak having to clear waivers....Either he's moved...Witch I would like or Michalek is a Baron to start. I still think we might plug in Zalesak early to get even more trade talks flowing.. Doug Wilson said he's the most called about Shark in the system.

I personally would like to see what ever is best for Michalek. But for entertainment and other reasons..I would like to see him a Shark botta bing.

ok, finishing...

7. Scott Parker is 4th line irregular. Also, primeau and smith share 4th line centering. The entire 4th line combines for 25 goals.
8. Ricci and Thornton both play excellent, but are nagged by returning injuries and will miss between 15-20 games.
9. Marleau will be SJ's MVP (even though it should go to Nabby)
10. SJ has the most improved point total, and most improved PK. SJ also leads the league in SH goals.

IN Closing, yes 3rd through 6th for a playoff berth. I see SJ taking the Pacific again if everything goes somewhat according to plan. Dallas or LA are the only teams possible for taking the division instead of us. Everything points to a good year. Teams will underestimate us, and as we get closer to the AS break, SJ will be in the thick of a 3 team race for the pacific. If we can pull some key wins out early in the season over some other division rivals, then I see SJ making a 7 month run to the playoffs.

Realistic....maybe not, Optimistic, you bet! If things "gel" the way we all hope they do, then SJ could be a fairytale team come the spring. I have no doubts that when SJ makes the playoffs, my happiness is fulfilled, as the Playoffs aren't to friendly to SJ.

actually the condition comment has more to do with his receiving ice time and not scoring. Its a common problem for rookies to hit the wall. Its the best league in the world and its tough to bring your A game everynight. Thus your ice time starts to diminish. Eventually a younger player starts to languish on the bench.
At that point its better to send him down and give him more ice time in the A, rather than get less ice time with the big club. Unless of course you want to see him sitting on the bench instead of continuing the learning process and becoming a better player with time.
Of course he might be able to play the full 80 and post some nice numbers, but its a tough act and not many have done it without time in the minors.
For example look at marleau's first season of 13 goals and 19 assists, after being taken #2 overall. Many would say that that is a very solid rookie season.
Michalek although being taken #6 overall only had 9 goals the past 2 seasons wtih Ceske Budejovice HC (thats 93 games played)

Lemme see...

#10a - We learn to dominate at The Tank, but are below .500 on the
road

#10b - We still frustrate DW and RW with the odd SJ phenomena of
habitualy losing to teams below us in the standings

#9 - Ricci, Thorton, Ekman become the most feared 3rd line in Hockey

#8 - Marleau is outplayed by Sturm all season long

#7 - VD costs us more games than his veteran status and contract are
worth

#6 - Alyn McCauly (sp?) makes us forget that guy that wore
#11...what's his name?

#5 - SJ is in the thick of the hunt for the 7th or 8th playoff spot

#4 - Nabby and Toskala come in second for the Vezina

#3 - Erhoff wins Calder (guran-damn-tee ya)

#2 - Our PK is just above league average...PP is just below league average

#1 - We still can't figure out how to beat the Wild

I like your #9, altohugh on tsn.ca it was reported that Wilson has cemented (so to speak) a line of Thornton-Marleau-Korolyuk. so, whom do you think will run LW 3rd line?

Ekman probably has the inside shot at 3LW right now, in my mind... but if Dimitrakos/Zalesak make the team as a 2nd liner with Sturm/Damphousse, pushing McCauley down to the 3rd line, that's not entirely bad either, as it brings more scoring to the 3rd line.

Thornton/Marleau/Korolyuk
Damphousse/McCauley/Sturm
Ekman/Ricci/Cheechoo
Harvey/Primeau/Parker

or

Thornton/Marleau/Korolyuk
Sturm/Damphousse/Dimitrakos(Zalesak)
McCauley/Ricci/Cheechoo
Ekman/Primeau/Parker

Either one works for me. Depends on if anyone is lost in the waiver draft too (Harvey?)
