free agent game result

Lineup:

Rolston - Koivu - Latendresse
A.Kostitsyn - Plekanec - Kovalev
Brouwer - Chipchura - S.Kostitsyn
Stewart - Grabovski - Lapierre
Bégin, Dandenault

Markov - Komisarek
Hamrlik - Weber
Bouillon - Gorges
callup: Carle

Price
Halak

Trades:

Montreal - Nashville
To Montreal: Shea Weber, NASH 2nd in 2008
To Nashville: Chris Higgins, Tom Kostopoulos, MTL 1st in 2008, rights to Michael Ryder

Montreal - Chicago
To Montreal: Troy Brouwer
To Chicago: Ryan O'Byrne

UFA signing:

Brian Rolston: 3 years, $15M limited NTC

Reasoning:
- With Price in goal, it made sense to strengthen the defence to make the team even tougher to score against. Acquiring Weber was meant to give Montreal the best blueline in the East. Weber's shot on the point was also a safeguard against losing Streit since his agent was being greedy. It was tough to let Higgins go but Gainey seems to have shopped him so I felt okay doing it. Kostopoulos' value was inflated, Stewart can fill his shoes.

- Weber made O'Byrne expendable but I didn't want to lose toughness so Brouwer was a good option. The fact he can fight makes it better, he'll stand up for his teammates but isn't a goon. With 41 and 35 goals in 2 AHL seasons, he also has a scoring touch.

- Weber replaced Streit's shot, but his speed and defensive awareness as a forward are replaced by Rolston, whose 30 goals capability also replaces Higgins' offence.

The team is tougher but hasn't lost out on skill or speed.

Have at it.

The only problem is that you are giving Rolston $5 million and that Weber could get $5-6 million. With Komi a UFA soon you could potentially have 4 defencemen taking about $20 million of cap space. It could work but the team would almost have to lose Kovalev and Koivu in 2009.

Pretty sweet. The other Free agent game did well also.
I'm the gm for game 8 but we need more people to sign up before we can announce trades.

1. Don't like Rolston at 5 million a year would rather sign Ryan Malone at that money
2. Grabovski cannot play 4th line C, defeats the purpose of playing him at all, switch him with Chipchura so that he has a skilled linemate to play with in S. Kost.
3. No way in Hell does NAshville trade Weber for Higgins Kostopoulos a 1st and the rights to a player who will be a UFA.
4. Montreal does not trade O'Byrne as the Weber trade has zero chance of ever happening.

realistic lines with one off season acquisition:

A. Kositsyn PLekanec Kovalev
Ryan Malone Saku Koivu Teemu Selanne
D'Agostini Grabovski S. Kositsyn
A. Stewart Lapierre Kostopoulos Latendresse

Markov Komiserek
O'Byrne Hamerlik
Gorges Valentenko

I have the Habs in another one. Not very advance but this is what I have so far:

MTL: P.Prucha, '08 2nd round pick
NYR: right's to M.Ryder
did not care for Prucha but wanted the 2nd.

Re-sign M.Streit 3yrs 9.75mil$ + NTC

MTL: B.Laich
WAS: J.Halak, P.Prucha
mostly Halak for Laich. I want a vet for Carey. Laich is a good player, big guy.

MTL: B.Allen, D.Booth, A.Stewart
FLO:C.Higgins, F.Bouillon, M.Grabovski
Loves that trade. Markov-Komisarek and Hammer with Allen is great. Booth scored 22 goals last year, should replace Higgy.

A.Kostitsyn - Pelkanec - Kovalev
Booth - Koivu - Latendresse
Laich - Chipchura - S.Kostitsyn
Begin/Kosto - Lapierre - Streit

Markov - Komisarek
Allen - Hamrlik
Gorges - O'Byrne
Dandenault

Price
XXXX

UFA has not started yet, only at 5th overall for the draft. Far from been over.

I'd do that Shea Weber trade in a heartbeat.

I tried in my game. The guy wanted either A.Kostitsyn or Higgins and S.Kostitsyn. Went after Allen instead.

You want to pay a 38 year old Brian Rolston $5 million a season?

That's just crazy.

I don't see why not, Hamrlik will be making $5,5M at age 37, Shanahan was making $4,5M at age 38.

My idea of the summer:

sign Brian Campbell and trade Markov for a 1st line center.

case closed.

I'd rather trade Markov for a first liner, sign Campbell, trade Campbell and the first liner for Markov and cookies, eat the cookies and wonder why I traded Markov in the first place when he was so awesome.

On EHM 2007 I traded Brad Richards for Lecavalier straight up.

Oh well, Vinny got me a cup the following season.

Sorry for my ignorance, but is Weber that good ? I thought it's a bad trade if we lose Higgins, only Higgins. Or maybe I over-rate Higgins.

Yep. Absolutely. Weber is on his way to being a spectacular defenseman. A notch below Phaneuf in terms of potential perhaps, but a fantastic two-way defenseman.
