Who was the hardest shooter in Canadiens history?

Who was the hardest shooting player in Canadiens history?

The only names that I can think of when it comes to this topic are Stephane Richer and Sheldon Souray.

I'm sure you guys can come up with more names and opinions for this question.

Boom Boom Geoffrion invented the slapshot.

Guy Lafleur had a Cannon.

Dave Manson once won the NHL's hardest shot competition, at the all-star weekend.

But I think today's shooters will shoot harder overall than those in the past due to the composite sticks, so I would guess Souray probably shot the hardest if we are looking at a pure speed thing.

Souray, I forget which goalie said it be he said that the shot just seemed harder when it hit him.

Gaston Gingras had a feared shot, so did Guy Lapointe who scored often from thr point with his shot.

Chad Kilger Had the hardest slapshot when he played for the habs.
Souray and Boom Boom also.

Right now it is probably Streit.

Wrong! Boom Boom helped master it, but wasn't near the first. Stan Mikita was probably the first to use a curved blade and introduce a real slap shot, the rest were wrist shots.

However.. Alex Shibicky is credited with first using a slapshot. He is attributed with using the first slapshot in a game in 1937.

Heck, you can ask McPhee he was probably there.

I think Chad Kilger has a 105mph+ slapper.

Jacques Lemaire is the only player I remember scoring regularly from centre ice.

Gaston Gingras used to part the human sea when he wound up for the slapper. Unfortunately it was the fans in row 30 that were scrambling to get out of the way.

Got to be Boom Boom Geoffrion. He would tear a hole in the net with these new warrior sticks.

Some claim it was Babe Dye in the twenties who was the first.

Geoffrion was using a slapshot in the NHL while Mikita was playing youth hockey.

Bobby Rousseau had a very good slapshot - beat Bruce Gamble from just inside the blueline on a penalty shot with a slapper.

Jacques Lemaire had a very good one but rarely used it when he played center.

Sheldon Souray had the best overall.

Hard to judge across eras as the players are much bigger today and the sticks are more slapshot friendly.

Am i the only one thinking that Kovalev has one of the hardest slappers on the team ?

I'm pretty sure he can reach 100 mph.

Anyone ?

I agree with that list but Price has a hard time right now skating up to the point during our powerplays so lets not mention him in that list, ok?

Anybody remember how the players used to shoot in the 10's-20's-30's-40's etc..

You should change the title to Canadiens's RECENT history. In other words, last 20 years. Maybe 30years max.

Truth is, not many of the old timers could compare to the shots todays players have. {Players from the 20's-50's were much smaller..not nearly as strong}

From the 60's on...I'd put Souray, Robinson and Manson at the very top.

I saw the roadrunner unload a few slappers that looked scary at the time.
