2 spots in the draft + $2.75M against the cap the next 2 years and $5.75M against the cap the following season when Sutton is off the books and McCabe is 35 years old.

It comes from grotesque overestimation of certain players. Not so much McCabe who was better than usual last season in all honesty, but definitely Kubina who only showed up for half the season and Kaberle who never showed up at all.
You hate toronto more than pens and philly fans hate each other. You have never said anything nice about any of their players. Your trying to make Kaberle sound like he is terrible when he is a top 15 d-man in the league. As far as the original post goes I would rather have Mccabe still because when healthy he can still be a great player.

You see, Toronto didn't have a Witt to pair with McCabe; he was, instead, relied on to be the defensive defenseman. Once he was paired with Colaiacovo (who is not an impressive stay-at-home, but better) McCabe became that elite defenseman that he is capable of being.

McCabe's only flaw is that he can't take high pressure situations. A heavy forecheck where he is expected to exit the zone is going to cause many turnovers. Either put him with a solid two-way who can outlet (Kaberle-esque) or a defensive defenseman who can slow down the play (Witt) and he is good to go. Somewhere around the 20th-25th best defenseman in the league when used properly, IMO.

Isles fans are being silly, for not jumping through hoops over a defensemen who as you admit, can't take high pressure situations?
McCabe would be the isles highest paid player and he can't take high pressure situations.Gimme a break!

We are not trading down from our top five pick to get an aging, pricey defensemen.

Fine.

Toronto gives McCabe and 7th overall, and gets the 3rd overall from Atlanta and a third round pick (which is about equivalent to Sutton's value).
