My daughter felt the need to correct someone's English. Her classmate was upset and told her that she wasn't such a 'grammacal' expert that she should be correcting others.

We don't know the inner workings of the RDS.ca website, they might be under tight deadlines, and understaffed.

I think it is legit to laugh about it, but the veracity of some posters comments seems a little uncalled for (grammar error alert).

When you translate a quote, its different. When you quote someone that just manages to speak french, then its also different.

This, btw, is not a grammar mistake.

Nice andecote, I find that story both funny and slightly sad.

It seems to me they repeated words for words what Robidas said to them. And I don't want to defend him but he speaks english more than he do french these days so it's perfectly understandable that he would make those errors.

you guys have to see this :

"je crois que mes plus meilleures années sont devant moi." Stephane Robidas.

RDS needs an award for this!
Means: "I believe my MOST BEST years are ahead of me"

Ana the editor here.
The general rule, depending on what style guide you use for your publication, is if it's in quotation marks, you print it exactly as recorded. If you translate it, you translate to the closest literal translation, not the prettiest sounding one. If you want to paraphrase, you remove the quotation marks but you still have to basically stick to what was said. In this case you can correct an error or substitute a better expression that means the same thing.
Whether or not you use [sic] depends on the context.

I never said translating. You jumped to that conclusion.

I said when a French Canadian player (or a European for that matter) speaks English or Gainey speaks French they clean up the quote. Why wouldn't they do it for a native speaker. And yes, it's a grammar mistake. It's very similar to English when someone says she's the most prettiest or he's the more strongest. That's a grammar mistake. It's either the most pretty or the prettiest. You can't combine the two.
