I don't understand other teams fascination with Suter. Sure, he's a solid young defenseman, but he can also be a frustratingly inconsistent player at times. It's laughable that he turned down (alledgedly) over 3 million.
By comparison, I look at a guy like Braydon Coburn of the Flyers, who signed an extension for under 2 mil for 2 years. My point? I actually think Coburn brings more to a team NOW and has more upside to a team than Suter does.

You're seriously underrating Suter. He was outstanding down the stretch this year...and while I think he might be overpricing himself...I disagree that Coburn is a better defenseman or that he has a higher upside.

It's all good. We are all entitled to our opinions. I just don't agree that Suter is a better DMan than Coburn. I'm not underrating Suter at all, believe that. Coburn is such a superiorly gifted skater than Suter is and has limitless Offesnive potential. Suter is a good skater in his own right, and is decent in his own end, but is also inconsistent for stretches. One thing Coburn has that Suter doesn't is a true earnest to get better. Suter, at times, comes off as a damned diva.
Coburne is not a better skater than Suter, especially with the puck.
Also, please let me know how you know Suter is a "Diva" at times. Do you hang out with him? Are you in the lockerroom? I mean really we heard the same stuff about Legwand.

In all fairness have you read the Crapassean at all this year? He does like to air his thoughts in public.

You honestly have no idea what your talking about. The only thing better about Coburn's game than Suter's is that he is bigger....but he doesn't use his size, so it is inconsequential.
I'm going to google. I remember an article right after he came back from an injury, whining about not being put immediately back in the lineup at the same amount of ice time. Second guessing Trotz's decisions all season.
Say what you will about Trotz, but he's the coach. Bad mouthing him in the press will NOT get you a better contract and more ice time.

I'll be back with links.
Show me a player in this league that isn't complaining about ice time. This just shows me that he want to get back on the ice as quickly as possible, nothing wrong with that. Besides ice time, show us where he has been "second guessing Trotz's decisions all season." None of us knows what goes on in the locker room, but if a player whining, complaining, or second guessing decisions, then that would get out to the press.
I was *hates to admit this* reading shmucklund's rumor mongering site yesterday & he posted something to the effect that IF Poile was dumb enough to send Suter to Philadelphia, it would be for the Hamburgler + ... the question now becomes what is that + ? ... If it is James Van Riemsdyk, I'm on board and won't question Poile ever again

I do not think you will get top 5 prospect in NHL (this is exactly what JVR is) for a RFA who wants to get paid.
Umberger for Suter?
From all I am hearing Jeff Carter wants to and will indeed be a Flyer for years to come. However, the Flyers are in an interesting spot with RJ. While it is hard to imagine a Vanek-like offer sheet coming in for RJ, it is entirely possible that Holmgren and Poile (two long-time friends) could make a move that would clear up issues for each of them.
The Flyers, in need of more defensive speed, could send RJ to Nashville for Suter. Nashville needs more size and scoring upfront. I could see both players (both of whom are RFAs) thriving in their new surroundings. I see RJ Umberger very much as a Keith Primeau in his early years in Detroit. He scores the same kinds of goals, is very strong on the puck, and we are just starting to see glimpses of a bigger scoring potential. It is all there for RJ, but Philly's youth and depth may keep him from ever seeing all of that potential. As Primeau went to Carolina and became a star, I coud see RJ in Nashville do the same. And Suter, an American kid that Holmgren is very aware of, could really help solidify the need for more speed on the defensive end. The Preds have so many young d-men and with Weber demanding a huge salary this summer and other guys coming up, the Preds could part ways with Suter.
I happen to think (as many have said) that the Flyers and Preds each make natural trading partners here (even ignoring their history as trading partners). I was not aware Poile and Holmgren were friends but NP have depth to spare on D and the Flyers have an abundance of talented young forwards. Nashville also has lots of picks in this very deep draft to help even the trade if that is required to sweeten the deal.
