Avery is one of the very few people I would like if he bolted to the Islanders.. It depends though if Sather was jackin him. I wouldn't boo him. Avery was great here and I'd clap for him once and only once and then hope Toots levels him.

I really don't see Sean turning down $3.5 per from the Rangers especially if its a 3 or 4 year deal like I would think they would offer him

why would he want to go to a failing franchise, when he can stay at an original 6 team, that is doing better and better every year, and hes a fan favourite

Cherepanov is not staying in Russia after next year (his last year on his contract).

And if Filatov drops in the draft, which is highly unlikely, the teams that pass him up would be ridiculously stupid.

Our needs are a Defensive Dman & a true #1 Center

No idea where Brooks comes up with his "rumors"

Yeah, I don't really see them pursuing Avery, personally. But who knows.

Brooks really shouldn't be allowed to write. Ever.

Ever see the South Park episode where they make fun of Family Guy? I'd imagine Brooks has a similar crew of manatees working in his office.

I think the Islanders have more pressing needs, but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't at least take a look at him. You know they'd love to screw us over like that and you know Avery would gladly take the money if they are willing to throw him more than Sather would.

I hope it doesn't happen, I want the guy back, but I will be preparing for the worst. And that's pretty much as bad as it would get in terms of free agents.

I think everyone wants Rolston but we will see

last yr they signed Gomez and Drury on July 1st and I expect a few deals that day this year

I would take Orpik and Streit on D no problem as the upgrade and go with it
up front avery must be resigned but if not id take cooke and malone. id take orpik commodore or vishnevski on d. Vishnevski and Tyutin would be good. both dman hit very hard. vishnevski does run around sort of like kasper. Kurt Sauer is another possibility since we have his brother who knows.

Vishnevski was resigned by the devils, and I could see lou's response when you inquire about his availability

Lamoriello (in the tone that the principal in Ferris Bueller used with Cameron when he tells Cameron that the only way Slone Peterson would get out of school is if he produced a corpse of Sloane's "dead grandmother")- "Vishnevski...oh sure, you just send us down Dubinsky and Staal and Vishnevski will be all yours...You know, that's not that bad of a trade offer. I heard Carolina is interested at sending Eric Staal to us for Vishnevski...What you don't believe me, cause I'm dead serious when I mean I want Staal and Dubinsky...Oh and I want Sanguinetti too."

I think Vishnevski is a better option that commodore (who would be our backup if we don't get orpik), but he's not in the cards.

I only 50% agree with you when it comes to "Our needs". I'm all for a Def Dman (with PP ability ) but lets resign Jagr and/or focus on other RW/LW before bringing in another Center. Gomez/Drury/Dubinsky/Betts/Anisimov is money IMO...

As for Avery, give him no more than $4mm/yr for 3yrs. $7mm or less for 2yrs would be ideal.

That guy was talking about the needs of the Islanders... not the Rangers.

True. My bad.

Point still stands on what I'm willing to pay Avery...

I actually think this is just Brooks rattling Sather's cage for not having at least touched base with Avery's people... nothing more.

This is something Milbury and the Gluckstern/Milstein ownership might have pursued for a cheap back page gimmick- but I don't see the current regime going that direction. Nolan's made it pretty clear that he does not respect Avery and the Islanders already have Sim coming back next year in the agitator role.

Sean Avery will definatley get to July 1. He will find out what the market will bear. The question will be if the Rangers will pay market value for Sean. They got alot of cap space in Gomez and Drury for a long time. Sean Avery has never scored more than 20 goals. Yes he deserves some extra $$$ for the intagibles he brings but Sean is not worth much more than 3 million dollars a year. Some team may throw 4 million at him.

The Islanders will not go after Sean. They will be a floor team until they get a new arena. In the meantime, the Islanders are going to try to draft and develop there own stars.
