I saw a similar thread on the Sabres board, and I thought it would be fun to predict what the Rangers would look like in 4 years. This is nothing but speculation, and should not be taken all too seriously. It might look something like this:
Kovalchuk-Gomez-Dubinsky (yes, I think he could be moved to wing)
Petrov/possible Russian draft pick-Anisimov-Cherepanov
Dawes-Drury-Korpikoski
Byers/Dupont-Betts?-Prospect
Of course, there will be surprises in the 08 draft that may work out for the Rangers and they could be fixtures on this team for a long time (see Lundqvist). The 09 and 10 drafts are also looking very good, but I doubt any of those draftees will make it to the show until 2011 the earliest, unless the Rangers are atrocious in any of the next 3 years and they draft a first line talent right off the bat.
What do you think? Yes, some of you may think that the idea is stupid, but I thought it'd be fun to discuss something like this during this very long offseason. Fire away!

that it's difficult enough trying to figure out next season's roster, let alone four years out. Waay too many variables, including several drafts that could net some decent players.
Fletch is right though, there are a lot of variables to even give a general idea of what the Rangers will look like in 4 years (IE trades/injuries/poor play/drafts etc).

this is the truth, however it is fun to think about:
Edited to include Dupont as the possible 4th line winger, although I believe he has higher upside than that.
Of course there are a lot of variables as a couple of people have mentioned, but it is very fun to think about. I guarantee that what I wrote in as the lineup in this thread will be vastly different than what the actual lineup will be. Too many things can happen in 4 years that can bring a franchise in one direction or another.

i would love any of those lines as well......although i would love to get cheraponov, anisimov, filitov and kovalchuk
What is with the obsession of an all Russian line? You guys do realize that Russians play with people from other countries and have success, right?
yea, but just imagine sam tryng to commentate a line of:
cheraponov-anismov-filitov HAHAHA
but in all seriousness, its just that all of those players are all different and their playing styles seem to normally compliment eachothers
anisimov- big bodied, good all around center who has great vision and great hands
cheraponov- sniper with great hands and vision, good at finding open ice
kovalchuk- sniper, plays with a lot of passion, very quick, strong
filitov- good all around winger with great hands and great vision
normally players who can finish and have great vision work well together because all are threats to shoot and all are threats to make the nice pass to set a goal up
These threads are taking over, people need to find new subjects besides bringing up the cap and our roster every other post.
Or just don't post, thats my fave.
lol, i understand where you are coming from, sorry if it came acrossed as a bit negative, there just isnt much going on around here, or anywhere for hockey, so its interesting to think about the future because that is all there is
Ah yes. People must find new things to talk about because they aren't the things you want to talk about.
Got it.
The season is over for us. Do you really come onto the boards looking for anything other than roster threads?
I've been around here too long maybe your right. Every offseason its the same thing, and NO ONE ever gets any of these rosters even close. Look at the ones after we signed Gomez/Drury, no one got it close even then. My problem is people state their opinions like its fact, gotta laugh, but sometimes i cry at how many threads there are, totally ridiculous.

Do you REALLY find the Jorts type threads on signing 3/4 of the league this summer interesting? Its totally obnoxious.

The Truth. Jagr, Shanny, Straka, Avery, Rozsival, Hollweg, and Prucha are basically all 50/50 on whether they are coming back or not. We could see a very similar team next year, or we could see a total overhaul. I don't know if it will be as interesting as last offseason, but this offseason sure is going to be a real big test for Sather and Co.
