I almost think that Olli will nearly assuredly be back for us in training camp. You don't trash your best player if you're intent on trading him, no matter how unhappy you are. Plus his worlds performance left a lot to be desired. I think if he can turn it around again with Zed back on the ice hopefully helping him, he'll be worth more to us that way than what he could get us in a trade now.

I can't agree with this assessment.

He wasn't as consistent as in years past, but definitely not at a 90% clip.

His approach was more indifferent after the Zednik injury, to be sure. However, he was showing up for more than 10% of the games season-wide.

So, let's run with the Savard rumor....

If he is going to be our new coach, and we all hear that he's very well liked in Pitt by his players... and they have 14 UFA's coming up... we could have the in on a few quality depth players that Pitt might not be able to keep... players who now know what it takes to make it deep in the playoffs.

When he struggled down the stretch, the problem was pretty clear: aside from that 2nd line, there was no one to pick up the slack, especially on the 1st line.

Olli produces despite his linemates. Interesting that once the line of Booth-Weiss-Horton started gelling, Martin didn't want to rock the boat and split them up (unless injury forced him).

However, he wouldn't give a second thought to throwing anyone (Dvorak/Zednik/Stumpel/Olesz/McLean) on a line with Olli.
That's because Olli doesn't really gel perfectly with anyone. He started having chemistry with Zednik, but that got interrupted. But he doesn't have chemistry with anyone else aside from Stumpel, and that's only when Stumps is on his game (in other words, rarely).

Richards take on the Savard possibility...and on why Nieuwy wasn't allowed to speak with Toronto.

pardon my ignorance here, but why exactly would FL be ticked off at Toronto (article mentions the Kilger deal)? did the team receive damaged goods/no disclosure on injury or something? sorry if this has been addressed already.

From GR's Blog:

"Also, Toronto media is reporting that former Dallas GM Doug Armstrong is interviewing with Leafs brass. If Armstrong becomes the new GM of the Leafs, don't be surprised if Nieuwendyk joins him in T-Town sometime this summer. There's plenty of speculation running around the Big Bank Building in Sunrise that Nieuwendyk wanted the Panthers hire Armstrong as GM. When it was apparent that wasn't going down, Joe moved on with his life. "

Hmmm, so possibly Joe doesn't think JM is the greatest GM in the world either?

Well, since Savard is denying any interest in the Panthers HC job, much less having one foot in the door, this thread is closed to further discussion as a bad rumour - and please do not post Biggane articles as new threads without corroboration again.
