He improved in Chicago but the thought of watching him face the Flyers young players and the Pens and teams like that multiple times a year is enough to give me nightmares. Abso-friggin-lutely not.
If hes the only thing available, and can be had for 2 years at 1.5-2 million per,while getting 3rd pairing minutes ONLY.Then I have no problem with NYR signing him.

if the rangers dont think potter is ready or should play in the nhl i wouldnt mind a third pairing of smith-vandermeer as both are physical and have experience and will come cheap

He isn't worth more then 950-1million tops no where near a 2 million dollar player.

Well i would like Smith, but i think its about seeing what out there. I guess its basically getting a partner for Staal, keping Tyutin and Girardi togetehr, and as for the third pair well who knows. I dont think I see Staher signing 3 d-men, but will see.

Oh god. This pairing gives me nightmares. Rangers were too slow defensively this year and it cost them, so now we're going to have a Smith-Vandermeer pairing? Teams would be overjoyed to face them. Neither of them can move, and the other team would skate circles around them. A guy like Mara who isn't necessarily physical but has speed is much more valuable than a defenseman who "plays the body" but takes 20 minutes to skate cross ice.
