everyone is talking about orpik commodore, what about Vandermeer? he would give us much need toughness and would be cheaper. maybe 2.0 per year for 4 years. he is only 28.

Hell no. Did you SEE him against us with the Flyers?

He improved in Chicago but the thought of watching him face the Flyers young players and the Pens and teams like that multiple times a year is enough to give me nightmares. Abso-friggin-lutely not.

He played well with Calgary, so it's hard to say. I would say no, only because I hope the Flames sign him.

If hes the only thing available, and can be had for 2 years at 1.5-2 million per, while getting 3rd pairing minutes ONLY.Then I have no problem with NYR signing him.

if the rangers dont think potter is ready or should play in the nhl i wouldnt mind a third pairing of smith-vandermeer as both are physical and have experience and will come cheap

He is a younger, sightly more mobile version of Struds.

Well i would like Smith, but i think its about seeing what out there. I guess its basically getting a partner for Staal, keping Tyutin and Girardi togetehr, and as for the third pair well who knows. I dont think I see Staher signing 3 d-men, but will see.

Nope it's not a upgrade, just give a kid a chance if they want him

He is the same as Struds and I dont think Strudwick should be back, time for a younger player like Potter to take up the spot or even Pock still

BUT Orpik was laying out everyone last night......he will cost a pretty penny now

Not sure how cheap he is. 1.225M last season. Would probably get a raise.

Yeah, 1 million tops ......So he will take a paycut, sure thats what will happen. i guess my call of 1.5-2 mill is out of question. I did say """1.5"""- 2 mill. I never said he was worth 2mill flat or more.

Jay the guy sucks. He can't skate and isn't a puck mover. 2 million a season sure go do it for 3 years and look how bad he gets beat to the outside

hmm that sounds alot like malik but at least vandermeer has more of an edge to his game and is willing to fight.

Oh god. This pairing gives me nightmares. Rangers were too slow defensively this year and it cost them, so now we're going to have a Smith-Vandermeer pairing? Teams would be overjoyed to face them. Neither of them can move, and the other team would skate circles around them. A guy like Mara who isn't necessarily physical but has speed is much more valuable than a defenseman who "plays the body" but takes 20 minutes to skate cross ice.

Seriously, the guy is too slow. He's barely an upgrade over Strudwick at a much higher price. Doesn't do a thing for us. Pass!
