Take a chance on filatov?

I know that Nikita Filatov, the young russian phenom, is supposed to go early in the draft, but he might get passed over thanks to the bad rep of young russians skipping out on their teams (Alexei Kaigorodov ring a bell?). Any chance he might be up for grabs by Ottawa in the 18th slot? From what I've heard he's one of the most skilled guys up for grabs, but risky. If he goes this late, would you take a chance on him?

I doubt he'll be available at 18th. He'll probably go top ten. But if he were to be not chosen by our pick, why not. Take the Best Player Available.

Trust me - Filatov won't fall past the Islanders at #5. You'd have to trade up to land him.

Filitov is different from those russians, number one is he is fluent in russian, english and french. Plus the team that gets him will let him play the next year.

The better question would be:
Do we take a chance on Beach?

I guarantee he's not available unless we trade up. The fact that he fell was based on injuries and attitude. He's going top 11.

I really don't think he's Murray's type right now, with the team in the state it is.

My opinion, package a deal for Torontos pick, send them Mezaros, Rights to McGratten, Ottawas 4th rounder.

Meszaros is a fine young D-man, but I don't see the Leafs going for a D-man, we're trying to get rid of D-man, not acquire them. Top six forwards is a much bigger problem.

Doubt our pick is high enough for Filatov anyhow, though I hope so. Like others, I don't see him getting past NYI.

there is absolutely no chance that he would fall to us... it would be such a miracle if he did.

That's what Rangers fans said about Cherepanov.

There is a major difference between Filatov and Cherepanov, but I guess it doesn't hurt to dream...

Cherepanov was not going to play junior in NA like Filatov is going to.

He will not fall to us. There is a blog by him where he states he is coming to North America no matter what and he currently has no contract with the CKSA next year. So hes coming to North America 100%. I wouldn't be suprised to see him go around the 2nd or 3rd pick depending on what the team needs. Who ever gets this guy will be a very happy team, he is going to be a franchise player.

Filatov is a determined player who wants to play in the NHL, He will either be signed automatically to a entry level contract and play in AHL or be drafted and being taken by the CHL import draft.
