Komi - Markov
Redden - Gorges
Hammer - Obyrne

now to me that looks like a completely solid defence.

Now what do you think we would have to do to get Redden?
He'd be a nice addition, but I'd prefer spending that 6-6.5 mil a year on a forward. He's also going to want 4-5 years. I'd rather sign Komi long term 5-6 years at 3.5-4mil per year.

I 've been reading opening bids for Brian Campbell could be in the $8 mill range.

redden is def on my UFA list, i would be happy to have him in the lineup. he is getting a pretty bad rep lately, but he is solid Dman in my book! if strit cost more than 3mil, id save my money and go after redden i think

If Campbell gets a 8M/year contract, we are coming close enough to baseball, meaning I'll stop watching it soon .

One of the last moves I would make...will take big money to sign him and I am not struck on former Sens players. They underachieved with us before

Really???

Was/is Briere worth the contract he got last summer???

I say nope, but hey he got it.

Why???

Because there are owners & GMs out there willing to sign players to those kinds of deals.

Realistically, is Hamrlik worth the $5.75 Mill he is getting from the Habs???

Nope, but that is what the market dictates, because the owners & GMs are willing to pay.

Like it or not, Brian Campbell was the highest scoring D-man in the league this year behind Lidstrom & Gonchar, playing almost 26 minutes a night & having a +6. Actually, Mark Streit is listed as 3rd, but he played very little on defense the last halh of the season, so I rule him out.

But with that said, what kinda offer do some of you feel Streit will get on the free market. I bet it will be a heck of a lot more than the habs will want to dishout for him.

I believe a few teams will offer him around $3-3.5 mill for around 3 years. Might even see someone toss out $4 mill a year as the UFA market this year is very weak and the salary cap is rumoured to go up again...

Exactly.

I expect to nothing much less than $4 mill offered to him, unless he signs for a hometown discount with the Habs.

Personally, I'm not sure Streit fits well into the Habs plans. Fourth line winger/PP specialist.

I know puck moving Ds are in huge demand these days but this is just ridiculous. Campbell deserve about the same as Rafalski so with the cap going up (rumored) this mean around 6.5 per year. I wouldn't be surprised if a team overpaid for him though but 8m....isshhhhhhhh

Philly gave Kimmo Timonen $8 mill last season & as was said, the cap is expected to go up, so you know the overpaying will continue.

& again, was Briere really worth $10 mill this past season???

No. But is Hossa going to be the $9-$10 mil he's surely going to get?

His cap hit is $6.5M It's the only number that counts.

Is Timonen worth $6.5 mill then? His numbers were no where close to Campbell's.

The point is the cap is going up & Campbell is the cream of the crop of D this UFA season

He might be the cream of the crop, but once an 8 million dollar player can win the stanley cup on his own...lets sign him!

edit: A defencemen that is...and in my opinion, the only D-man worth that much or more is Lidstrom.

So then is $6 mill a more reasonable number???

& again, it's not about what you or I think he's worth, it is about what some team will offer him.

So, didn't anyone else here believe Gainey overpaid for Hamrlik last summer???

Sure he did. You HAVE to overpay for a ufa nowadays, but Hammer's contract is looking better and better now.

It is said that Brooks Orpik could get an offer of $5 mill per season, so Redden & Campbell IMO would be bargains @ $6 mill per season looking at what Orpik may get & Hamrlik did get.

Redden won't get more than 5M. You are only as good as your last two seasons and last one was not so good.

A GM that give Hossa 10M will be fired in the next 2 years. That is 20% of your salary cap. you need 30 other players to share the 80%.

Not much more than OVs.

Redden at 6 million is a bargain? His done nothing to justify his 6.5 million per year contract. Sorry Bud, I beg to differ on this one.

Your argument about Hossa doesn't really hold up. First of all, Lecavalier, Kovalchuk, and even Ovechkin were signed before the cap will increase this summer. So the market was entirely different, not to mention that all three were RFAs while Hossa will be a UFA which impacts things a little. Next, 10M is a little less than 20% of the cap, while it's 19-22 players who share the other 80%, not 30.

Yes, 10M is a lot to spend on one player, but a team *may* make such an offer, and it is very unlikely it will directly lead to the firing of anyone. Hossa is an elite talent.
