i for one wanted to keep him. it made absolutely no sense to let him go. he produced fairly well in a support role, actually wanted to stay a Ranger pretty badly, and had a quite a few good years left in front of him, not to mention a very good shootout shot.

Rangers went with Shanny instead. IMHO we shoulda signed both of them.

If we had Sykora, we still wouldn't have beaten the Pens.

I'm not surprised to see a thread like this mere minutes after he scores.

agreed, but that doesnt take away from the fact that after he was more or less let go, i personally felt it was a dumb move, and still do.

You know what? He's AMAZING! He's EXACTLY what we have been, and still are missing.. and if we had him, it'd be US in the finals right now!!!

There... that better?

Here we go though, showing stats to prove how "awesome" he was for us.

He was solid.. he was ok... he wasnt great, and he isnt necessarily missed.

OMGZORZ ADAM HALL!!! - Make that one next, ok? Thx.

Adam Hall did not statistically produce squat. Nor did the vast majority of the players who pop up in threads like this. Skykora however did. He was on pace for a 33 goal, 31 assist season. Better than Drury put up this year, and he would have been paid about 1/3rd the amount.

Dont confuse regretting bringing him back, with thinking that having him would have made a difference. I for one merely think that he would have been a player who should have been brought back. I dont think he would have been a difference maker this season, but I think his cap hit, coupled with his productivity, and importance during shootout made signing him a no brainer. I still dont understand why he wasnt brought back.

Completely agree Inferno, I could never work out why he wasn't brought back either. I had a soft spot for him as his first game as a ranger was my first ever visit to MSG.

I do remember that a lot of people on here were very down on him after the '06 playoffs (although everyone sucked there, not just Sykora)

I agree, I thought he was good here too (excellent in the shootout), but I mean, that was 2 years ago..he's gone now.

yep, Sykora actually had a pretty good playoff performance as I recall. He didnt put up any numbers, but I swear he must have hit at least 5 posts during that series. His performance was magnified because Jagr was gone, and he and Prucha were looked at to right the ship that had been sinking for weeks before then. I remember the backlash he got, and how many people soured on him based on a few bad games. But if you look at his body of work, he definitely warranted another contracts. Especially since we knew it wouldnt have costed us more than 2-2.5 million. For that kind of production, its a frigging bargain.

Yep, i know its been a while. but since the OP brought it up, i figured i would chime in with my 2 cents. I wouldnt have started a thread like this, but I don't mind saying what I think.

why are there no Dupuis threads? because we don't want to admit how blatantly wrong we were about that trade?

I'd much rather have Dupuis than Sykora.
