All for him staying with the organization as long as it doesn't come with another $5mil cap hit.

Shanny would like either a job with the team or one with the League. I'm told that's part of the reason he came to NY...so that he could work for the league afterwards.

Even though I doubt it would ever happen with us, I agree that he would make a pretty good color guy on TV.

I forgot about Perry Pearn and the Panthers...

Definitely would seem like a logical choice, ESPECIALLY if Avery comes back (Shanny is a great influence on him)...

What difference would it make? They PLAYEd together and it didnt work.

You know Shanahan knows how to run a powerplay with the right personnel - but Jagr does not fit in that style of PP.

I'm all for this if Jagr isnt resigned. If he is its going to be another tough going if Shanny is indeed an assistant and in charge of the PP. They'll be two totally different philosophies behind the setup/attack and the actual execution on the ice.
Totally agree. Last 2 months of the season I wished they had taken JJ off of the power play, cause I had a feeling it would actually work if everyone didnt have to pass it through him so he could dick around with it before taking 10mins to deciding to shoot.

I'd rather see shanny come back 1 more year as a 3rd/4th liner then become an assistant coach, IDC how you guys are gonna react, but how many games did he win for us in the shootouts, and he still is a 20goal scorer, just 1 more year then become coach

His value as a player has waned to the point we've reached diminishing returns, but as a mentor/instructor to the younger players, he's a valuable asset.

I only wish we had gotten him in our sweater ten years ago as it was so often speculated about back then.

To me...

it depends on if there aren't better options out there. I'm not sure if Shanny has fresh ideas for today's NHL and am not totally convinced he would be a great (or good) assistant coach. We all loved him as a player but not all players make decent coaches. Not saying he'd fail, more or less saying I really don't know and if there is a vacancy, are there other options available.

Meh. Judging by your post one would might say that other "non-Jagr" unit did well.
Unfortunately, Gomez, Shanny and Drury sucked as well.
Blame Pearn for not working PP.

To the topic...Shanny as a coach?Hope noone is serious about this.
I'm not even sure if he is suitable as assistant coach.

No, I agree it didn't. I probably should have added that in the post. However I do think the two units, while they don't share the same players obviously, either excel together or suffer together = PP Coach (But JJ's style isn't helping...)

I think the term "coach" is being applied loosely to a potential role within the organization.

JJ's style...

was fine when he had Nylander with him, even though we all thought it could've been better (it was 8th in the league two years in a row - not too shabby). I don't think Pearn has a keen sense to work the PP with the pieces he has. In other words, it's not always about point shots and traffic in front. You need to develop a style that suits the players on the ice.
